@professorccming Western democracy often looks like elites rotating power and dividing interests. The system is deeply entrenched, with little room for real change. Compare 30 years of urban development across countries and ask: which system has delivered more?
@JanJekielek This narrative is old: frame the government and people as enemies, deepen division, then profit from the fallout. Washington rarely talks about the consequences because others pay the price.
@thomasonlife@brianhioe Tolerance can deepen division. If Scotland actually became independent, would life really be better? I doubt it. Politicians chase votes with half-truths, while ordinary citizens are the ones who bear the risks.
@frances_hui@washingtonpost Try splitting Texas or California from the U.S. and you’re a separatist. Push Scottish or Okinawan independence and you’re “dangerous.”
But push Hong Kong independence and suddenly you’re a “freedom fighter”?
The hypocrisy is obvious.
