Dharmendra Pradhan resigned as Education Minister yesterday.

He has been in the Union Council of Ministers without a break since November 2014. Petroleum first, then steel, skilling, and education. Twelve years is a long run for one minister, and most of today's coverage is compressing it into a single paragraph about NEET.

I spent this morning pulling the actual figures out of PIB releases and ministry data. Putting them in one place.

For years, Bengal's civilizational ethos was overshadowed by vote-bank politics, where many felt appeasement took precedence over protecting free expression.

CM Suvendu Adhikari's reported assurance to Taslima Nasreen : "Come to Bengal as many times as you want, your security is my responsibility", marks a welcome shift.

A state that gave the world Tagore, Bankim Chandra, Vivekananda and Syama Prasad Mookerjee should stand with writers, not fear threats against them. Protecting an author's right to live and speak without fear isn't just good governance it's a cultural victory.

This is the Bengal many have long wanted to see.

Another interesting thing that happened this week: ISRO and JAXA scientists met in Bengaluru to lock down the interface between India's lander and Japan's rover designed to crawl into craters where sunlight hasn't reached in billions of years.

The mission goal: find frozen water at the Moon's south pole.

Rungia mastersii survived with only one herbarium specimen collected in 1845 by J.W. Masters. Now, Kangkan Kumar Das and Debjyoti Bhattacharyya have rediscovered it in Assam's Jatinga Hills.
