Brewster Kahle warns that the systems connecting libraries, readers, and cultural memory are becoming dangerously fragile as publishers replace ownership with temporary access.

We tend to think the internet is permanent, but recent events remind us that our digital record is fragile & being shaped in real time.
Legal pressure, platform restrictions, and limits on tools like the Wayback Machine are already affecting what can be preserved and accessed.

30 Years Too Late: World Bank Finally Admits Its Policies Against Industrialization Were Wrong
For over half a century, the World Bank and its sister organization, the IMF – both creations and effective property of the United States government – have impoverished Africa with their neoliberal economic “recommendations”. For over half a century, Western-aligned African leaders – like the one presently ruling over Kenya – have signed off on these “recommendations”, selling the futures of their own people to the West and its multinational corporations.
Elsewhere in the Global South, countries like China and Singapore have defied the World Bank’s neoliberal doctrine, defended themselves against the political strong-arming that the West has historically used to force weaker nations to bow to this doctrine, and seen rapid economic growth over the same period that Africa, as a continent, has seen only economic sabotage.
On March 17, 2026, the World Bank published a report in which it backtracked on its decades of anti-industrial recommendations to the Global South, and seemed to suddenly embrace the idea of sovereign nations deciding for themselves what to produce on their soil and why.
What are Africans to make of this dubious about-turn? And what lessons do East Asia’s continued successes hold for the African continent?
@barrahart reports for the Spearhead.

Many Nigerians debate banditry from a distance.
But until you meet it face-to-face on a lonely road, you cannot fully understand the fear it carries.
I once ran into bandits on the road to Anka in Zamfara.
Around 4pm, at Mayanchi junction, very busy junction, police and military checkpoints not up to 3 mins drive from there, more than fifty armed men blocked the road with their faces wrapped, Carrying weapons I had never seen before in my life.
In situations like that we were taught two things:
Never panic or look at them in the eyes and Never acknowledge them as bandits.
So I parked my car calmly, greeted them politely and asked how work was going — pretending they were security agents.(this was very important then)
None of them answered me.
They inspected my car, then silently signaled me to go.
I drove away slowly, but my whole body was shaking.
God saved me, for whatever reason, I really don’t know but I came out untouched.
Some of the realities of insecurity in Nigeria are difficult to explain to people who have never seen it up close.

Those terror!sts don’t care if you recite every Surah in the Quran while begging them, they don’t know about Allah, they don’t serve him, they don’t fast or pray, if you think they are doing this in the name of religion, I’m sorry for you.
Everyone will eventually learn.
@shiten_room Hi, I'm from Nigeria. Our issue since the 90s is that we only anime/manga licensed in English speaking countries like the UK/USA. My family got anime VHS tapes that way.
That's why I always support online distribution, but even apps might not be available for us at first 😅
