Said it before and I will say it again - the way so many people talk to and about Filipinos/The Philippines on this app (and generally) just does not sit right with me at all. Like what the fuck is with that tone…
Westerners are always so "The PH is so beautiful! So hospitable! Cheap and affordable!" until Filos push back against gentrification, and then they're out here mocking us for our english, our illiteracy crisis, etc. Of course you only like us when we're of service to you!
y’all treating filipinos like they’re dumb and crazy when it was colonized by the US not even 100 years ago. so god forbid filipinos are protective of their culture being used by their colonizers yall are odd
so pissed at americans for jumping at this opportunity to be racist against filipinos and even accuse us of not being able to speak their ~native language~ like that same language wasnt imposed on us lmao
Americans in the quotes and responses pulling out slurs that haven’t been used since like the 1900s and calling Filipino’s illiterate and ill educated oh what a surprise
I worked really hard on developing a vegan ube ice cream recipe for work and look how pretty she is! Zero artificial colors or flavors, and maybe the perfect special to bridge AAPI and Pride months.
Like I seriously want to dress like a pre-colonial Filipina woman frfr. I would rock the salakot, gold, and tapis, alampay...and then some Spanish descent guy would rob me...
Another point I have about my fellow wasians here: are you lot not seeing how gross and fetishy this entire ‘wasian aesthetic’ trend is? Like how are you guys enjoying this? Do you not find it totally dehumanizing? How are you not finding it totally dehumanizing? WAKE UP!!
Like we are being put on an underserved pedestal purely because of our proximity to whiteness (don’t get me started on the whole eugenics of this…)
And being paraded around like some sort of shiny Pokémon??
What are you actually enjoying about any of this really
Nobody is saying there’s anything wrong with being wasian or that we shouldn’t be celebrated or whatever else. People are just saying we shouldn’t be constantly front and center. Other mixes deserve to have their voices heard too. That’s all.
As a ‘wasian’ (hate the term but whatever) this whole thing is just embarrassing. Like all this “we’re always excluded!” talk (which isn’t anything unique to us?) only to make an event that literally just excludes everyone else and in turn further alienates us from other -
We’re all mixed and half Asian here at the end of the day. I would say I’d have more in common with someone who’s half black half Filipino than someone who’s half white half korean (for example).
So using the “we have nothing in common” Is an absolutely bullshit excuse
Sometimes I think about the number of cultures that were nearly wiped out because of colonialism and therefore I think people should be loud as fuck about their cultures without judgement actually…
