Chapter 3 of my thesis is now published in @SocietyExpMech! Quantifying how the mechanical properties of tissues change over time & with disease progression is instrumental for understanding health. We observed variations in stiffness & fracture in gelatin & liver using VCCE.
Seeing another piece of my PhD in print is a nice reminder of how much work I put in over the last few years. As always, I couldn't have done it alone and this paper was a group effort with so many wonderful lab mates in the @CohenMechGroup
I'm pleased to share that the second paper of my PhD has been published in Soft Matter is now available online at https://t.co/wMjrC3jWpb
If you'd like to see me present this, and the rest of my work from the @CohenMechGroup, I will be defending my thesis *this Wednesday*.
No proposal or manuscript is ever perfect, but to be effective, it does eventually need to be finished.
Nothing we submit will ever be as good as it *could* be and just recognizing that can be an important step forward.
Perfection is not the goal. Finished is the goal.
The @SocietyExpMech 2024 Annual Conference is almost here! I'm especially excited about the new Empower Hour networking event that I helped to organize happening on Wednesday evening. Women in the SEM community, check your email for details and see you there!
Every time I get a flier in the mail I check to see if I know anyone on it. Today I did. It was me 😅. Consider this your registration reminder for @SocietyExpMech annual 2024! Looking forward to June
Huge thanks to @MIT, @mitcyclingteam & @B2C2Cycling for bringing me to Boston/Cambridge to tell the story of STAND & creating change in this big, weird world. Moral: If I can, you can. So let’s do it, yo.
Indiana, coming your way in April.
Are you part of a company or university in need of a keynote speaker about diversity, inclusion, empowerment & inspiration? Well, head on over to https://t.co/aoz1Qu2a1F and drop me a line.
Successful end to @SocEngScience#SES2023 with this growing Solid mechanics family @MITMechE. Great presentations all around and fun interactions with colleagues in our mechanics community!
And that’s a wrap. @SocEngScience 2023 finished up today. We thoroughly enjoyed connecting with so many colleagues and friends this week. See everyone again soon!
Last day of @SocEngScience 2023 musings include…
-Engineering science is hard and I am so impressed with all of us plugging away at various stages of this journey
-Growing an academic community is hard but finally feel like I have “conference friends” s/o Estrada & Franck labs
-Why is the conference background lighting color of choice purple?
-When presenting images of stained cells, can we all agree to invert our colors? Red on black is not a functional color scheme on a projector. Wearing my @MITCommLab fellow hat here and I am dying.
@SocEngScience 2024 kids table. Documenting this for Joseph so that someday one of us can use this at the start of a Medalist lecture talking about the “good old days” with our mechanics friends from grad school ;)
Field trip time! @SocEngScience here we come. @CarlosMPortela, we are adopting your group if you miss the flight. Don’t worry, we will take good care of them 😉
