@jaybsauceda Any mention of lightning bugs always reminds me of Mark Twain's use of Josh Billings's original quotation: "The difference between the almost-right word and the right word is really a large matter—’tis the difference between the lightning-bug and the lightning."
@vulcanhammer@TracesofTexas That's the first thing that came to my mind! Great that someone else knows it. Of course, it's a joke best told in person, with great elaboration! In my version, it's an Epiphany party and the three dudes that show up at the door are the three Wise Men, who've come from a far.
@TracesofTexas I mostly photograph wildflowers of all sorts, and I'll add this one: never assume you know the county/refuge/city's mowing schedule. There's nothing worse than returning the next day -- or two hours later for that matter -- and discovering the vorpal blade's gone snicker-snack!
@TracesofTexas It's an early version of Houston's beer can house; the Houston house is covered with over 50,000 beer cans and other beer paraphernalia. It also seems proof that quirky minds think alike!
@jaybsauceda Suffice it to say that as a still healthy (and working) almost 80 year old, I spend about $300-$400 per month on groceries. I was lucky enough to be raised by Depression era parents who taught me two things: how to cook, and how to delay gratification.
@TracesofTexas The first thing that came to mind was the practice of 'doffing' one's hat. Lo & behold, 'doff' is a late Middle English contraction of 'do off.' There's the connection between men's hats and this lad's occupation: taking off a hat, or taking off a bobbin.
@jaybsauceda@HiltonHotels@DHSgov The sign reminded me of this, which may give you a chuckle. Two friends who were associated w/Austin tv years ago once proposed that their gravestone should have the outlines of two empty tv screens and the words "Stay Tuned. We'll be Right Back."
@TracesofTexas This is for Christmas the way "Alice's Restaurant Massacree" is for Thanksgiving. We'd never miss making both a part of our celebrations!
@TracesofTexas I still laugh when I remember a postcard I found some years ago in the Denver airport. It showed a pretty mountain scene and said "If God had wanted Texans to ski, He would have made bull***t snow."
@TracesofTexas As beautiful as the landscape is, lucky you to have captured the atmospheric phenomenon known as the Belt of Venus so beautifully. Those pink and blue hues are well explained here, https://t.co/7ZlKKNTtRN and witnessing them always is entrancing.
