🔴Manipur Crackdown: 8 Militants Arrested, Including NIA-Case Absconder Linked to 2021 Assam Rifles Ambush

Security forces arrested eight militants in coordinated operations across Thoubal, Kakching, Tengnoupal, Imphal East and Imphal West.

Those arrested are linked to banned outfits including PLA/RPF, PREPAK, KYKL and KCP.

Thiyam Boycha Singh alias Balin, a self-styled PLA captain, was identified as an NIA-case accused and declared absconder.

Investigators said he was allegedly part of the team involved in the November 2021 ambush on Assam Rifles personnel at Behiang, in which six people were killed.

Another key arrest was Chongtham Lukhoi alias Rakesh, identified as a self-styled KYKL captain.

Security forces recovered arms and ammunition, cash, documents, subscription receipts, seals and letterheadslinked to the banned outfits.

NIA ARRESTS ONE MORE ABSCONDING ACCUSED IN AK-47 RIFLE RECOVERY CASE

New Delhi, 23rd August 2026

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a joint operation with Bihar STF arrested one absconding accused, Karamullah, S/o Abdul Gaffar, R/o Ward No. 02, Chetan Parsa, District Saran, Bihar, from Saran on Saturday, 22nd August 2026, in NIA case No. RC-11/2024/NIA/DLI, pertaining to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and live ammunition. Accused Karamullah had conspired with other co-accused persons to smuggle sophisticated prohibited-bore weapons from Nagaland to Bihar, with the intention of disrupting public peace and safety and endangering national security.

The case was initially registered as Case No. 19/2024 dated 7th May 2024, pertaining to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle with lens and live ammunition from Murghatiya Bridge, Muzaffarpur, by Fakuli PS, and the arrest of 4 accused persons.

After completion of investigation, NIA filed its first supplementary chargesheet against 4 accused persons, namely Vikash Kumar, Satyam Kumar, Devmani Rai and Ahmad Ansari, under Section 120B of the IPC and Sections 13 and 18 of the UA (P) Act, on 8th May 2025. The second supplementary chargesheet was filed against one accused, namely Manjoor Khan, under Section 120B of the IPC, Sections 25(1AA), 26 and 35 of the Arms Act, and Sections 13 and 18 of the UA (P) Act, on 20th February 2026. The third supplementary chargesheet was filed against one accused, namely Kundan Kumar @ Kundan Bhagat, under Section 120B of the IPC, Sections 25(1AA), 26 and 35 of the Arms Act, and Sections 13 and 18 of the UA (P) Act, on 15th April 2026.

In the instant case, accused Bhairaw Tripathi, S/o Jagat Narayan Tripathi, R/o Sahebganj, Muzaffarpur, was recently arrested from Muzaffarpur on Wednesday, 19th August 2026.

Further investigation in the case continues.

On 22.08.2026, based on a credible intelligence, joint team of Thoubal CDO and 11 AR launched a search ops in general area Lilong Ushoipoki during which a s/s Captain, Thiyam Boycha Singh alias Balin (28) a/p Bishnupur Ward No. 8 was arrested.
Through further questioning it was revealed that he was part of the team that ambushed the CO of 46 AR and 6 others in Behiang, Churachandpur on 13/11/2021.
He is A-3 in the case investigated by NIA and is a declared absconder.
