I am writing to formally raise concerns regarding customer conduct at the Costco warehouse on Kirkham Drive in Markham.

I regularly see Costco shopping carts abandoned across the street, along nearby roads, in parking areas, and outside the warehouse property like 5km away from Costco, near bus stops etc. I wish people are more cautious and responsible. This creates safety risks for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists, while also making the surrounding community look untidy.

I respectfully request that Costco educate customers and strictly enforce the requirement to return shopping carts to the designated cart-return areas. Costco may consider larger signs, regular announcements, additional parking-lot monitoring, more frequent cart collection, and wheel-locking systems to prevent carts from being removed from the property.

I have also noticed some customers opening clothing packages, trying on or changing clothing inside the warehouse, and then leaving the garments scattered or improperly placed. This is unhygienic, disrespectful to employees and other shoppers, and can damage merchandise. Costco is increasingly being treated like a discount store, with little respect for its property, merchandise, or basic shopping etiquette. It also appears that employees here may not be receiving adequate training or clear guidance on Costco’s standards or on how to address these issues consistently and professionally. Their apparent acceptance of untidy conditions gives the impression that these standards are not being properly enforced. Clear signs and stronger staff monitoring in the clothing section may help prevent this behaviour.

Costco is known for maintaining high standards. I hope the management team will take firm and practical measures to improve customer awareness, enforce responsible conduct, and protect the cleanliness and safety of the warehouse and the surrounding Markham community.
