What has happened to my Chennai???🥲🥲🥲

I lived for four years Chennai a decade ago during my UG.

I was back in Chennai for few days to visit few relatives all over Chennai to distribute invitations for my brother’s marriage. I spent a whole day driving around Chennai, making a good 50 km circuit throughout Chennai through Vadapalani, T.Nagar, Velachery, Pallikaranai, Anna Nagar etc.

I was left heartbroken after that ride. I can’t fathom how people are surviving this roads. Everywhere there is metro construction. None of the roads are in good condition. There are so many bumps and half laid roads. Even if the road is free you can’t go over 40km/hr. I am not kidding, I counted how many time I had put my car on fourth gear throughout the day. It was less than 10 times, in that whole day. Every road is narrowed because of metro pillars in the middle adding to traffic. The Metro construction vehicles are in the middle of roads during day time also. Except for the GST Road, all other roads are in terrible condition.

There were piles of garbage overflowing the bins at many places. Crossed an area near Maduravoyal, where for 1km stretch the stench of garbage was unbearable. This is during a dry day without rain. Can’t imagine the stench there in rainy days.

It was too painful to see Chennai go through this. I hope a better day comes for Chennai after all the constructions are over and hope the roads are fit for commute.
