As a reminder of how Taylor lives her values, without always having to shout them in your face: Lavender Haze was the first time a major straight musician cast a trans actor as their love interest in a music video.
I have friends, acquaintances, even family who are true blue Conservatives. Over the past year I’ve been texting back and forth with some of them about politics.
They sure loved to rib me: laughing about poll numbers, calling a super majority for the Conservatives, telling me all other parties would be destroyed. They sure laughed about that.
Some of them - even those who DO understand the role harm reduction services play in saving lives - told me I should only talk about recovery programs, suggesting I’d be in trouble with an incoming Conservative gov.
(I wouldn’t do that, btw👆
I don’t stand up for a full spectrum of programs to fight the toxic drug crisis for personal or political gain, I do it because it’s the right thing to do.)
I can handle good natured trash talk. But some of it wasn’t all that good natured, TBH, and it was relentless … lots of ROFL emojis whenever things looked bad for the Liberals. I took a lot on the chin. A couple times I said “you're probably right, but let's see what happens.” They all laughed. A week out from the election, I texted them to say: it's going to be close! They all sent laughing crying emojis.
Here’s the thing: since Carney won on Monday I haven't received a single message from any of them. After all that trash talking, NOT ONE! It’s kinda feeling a lot like poor sportsmanship.
So today I messaged each of them to make sure they’re ok. You can bet I added quite a few emojis.
Petty? Sure. But I think I earned it.

If you’re a Canadian echoing the “secure the border, Trump is right” talking points you may just be gullible enough to fall right into the trap that was set for you.
Finally, Canadians are seeing the Trump/Musk/Poilievre link and realizing that whatever Trump is doing in the US, he'll do exactly the same to us. Be careful who you vote for.
I hope Canadians who are concerned with Donald Trump becoming President of the United States are equally concerned of the possibility that Pierre Poilievre could become Prime Minister of Canada.
