This awesome man who represents everything that is good about America is 92 years old today. Michael Dukakis, who is the proud child of Greek immigrants, came so close to the White House in 1988—the course of history would have been very different in so many ways had he won.
Michael is incredibly humble & selfless and has mentored and inspired so many people including myself for the past 6+ decades. He is an amazing friend and my hero. He has devoted his entire life to helping people, strange concepts for our political leaders of today. This will be his first birthday since Kitty, his beloved wife of 62 years passed away earlier this year but his wonderful family & friends will continue to comfort him and watch him over him. 🤗🎂
1. There are a few things I would like normal people to bear in mind tomorrow after they follow news coverage of congressional testimony by US Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F Kennedy Jr.
President Joe Biden is one of the most consequential presidents in American history.
With the wisdom and magnificent leadership of President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, our nation has been graced by four historic years of progress, hope and unity for American families.
Tonight, President Biden delivered his farewell address to a nation that is stronger because of his leadership. In doing so, he honored the vision of founders, the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform and the aspirations of our children.
With deep experience and with global relationships that are rivaled by none, President Biden has masterfully led America on the world stage.
Under President Biden’s visionary leadership, America has been unequivocal in our commitment to defending Democracy here at home and around the world – and our NATO alliance is stronger and more unified than ever.
America was fortunate to have a strong, steady, wise commander-in-chief honoring and promoting American values in the global arena.
President Biden and Vice President Harris, with the partnership of Democrats in Congress, have built a towering legacy of extraordinary achievement for the American people.
They pulled our nation from the depths of the pandemic and ignited the strongest economic recovery in the world with our American Rescue Plan.
They seized a once-in-a-century chance to rebuild our nation while investing in our middle class with our Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
With our CHIPS and Science Act, they declared America’s economic independence: powering a manufacturing boom, driving decades of scientific discovery and creating good-paying jobs across the country.
They enacted America's first major gun violence prevention legislation in nearly three decades with our Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and took a monumental step toward fully honoring the service and sacrifice of our heroes in uniform with our PACT Act.
With our Inflation Reduction Act, they honored our moral responsibility to save the planet while bringing down costs for working families by lowering prescription drug prices and energy bills.
And our Respect for Marriage Act was a triumph of love, liberty and justice for all.
President Biden and Vice President Harris have earned their place in the pantheon of American democracy.
Every American can be proud of the leadership and dignity they brought to the White House – and tonight, we again saw President Biden's great respect for America's remarkable history.
With love and gratitude, I salute President Biden and Vice President Harris for always believing in the possibilities of America and building a stronger and fairer future for all of America's families.
Joe Biden ended his presidency with:
2.9% inflation.
4.1% unemployment.
43k Dow Jones.
Manufacturing boom.
Gaza ceasefire.
Medicare D $2k prescription drug cap.
Infrastructure boom.
Fastest economic recovery.
Covid handled.
But go ahead, tell me he’s a bad president.
Four years ago, in the middle of a pandemic, we needed a leader with the character to put politics aside and do what was right. That’s what @JoeBiden did.
At a time when our economy was reeling, he drove what would become the world’s strongest recovery – with 17 million new jobs, historic wage gains, and lower health care costs. He passed landmark legislation to rebuild our nation’s infrastructure and address the threat of climate change.
I’m grateful to Joe for his leadership, his friendship, and his lifetime of service to this country we love.
Literally crying in the Target parking lot right now. 🧵
I was struggling with unloading my toddler, my bags and wrangling an unruly cart (seriously — why do some lack power-steering?) A fire truck from Redondo Beach (E61) had just parked nearby and four firefighters got out.
Andrea Mitchell asks if Democrats should think twice about nominating a Black person or woman.
Juanita Tolliver let her have it. She asked, why are you asking Democrats to modify their behavior and not asking white women to modify their voting behavior?

The end of subsidized health insurance, the end of fluoride protection vs cavities, end of public health measures like vaccination, end of nonpartisan research by National Institutes of Health and Natl Cancer Institute = Trump's and RFK Jr.'s "Make America Healthy Again."
Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Philadelphia:
"She's young and optimistic, smart as a whip, and she brings joy back to politics because she cares, she cares about our fellow citizens. The other guy is a vulgar fire hose of chaos. He's out there, fellating his microphone and riffing about having one violent day to stop violence, and how he's going to protect women, whether we want him to or not. News flash, Donald, we don't want you anywhere near us."
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner:
"Anybody who thinks it's time to play militia, F around and find out. Anybody who thinks it's time to insult, to deride, to mistreat, to threaten people, F around and find out. We do have the cuffs, we do have the jail cells. We do have the Philly juries, and we have the state prisons. So if you're going to try to turn an election into some form of coercion, if you're going to try to bully people, bully votes or voters, you're going to try to erase votes, you're going to try any of that nonsense: We're not playing. F around and find out."
Short thread.
1. Like everyone else who's lived through the last decade, I've learned to doubt that anything Trump does, however gross, or any manifestation of Trumpism, however appalling, will make a difference.
But...maybe?
