A letter from Lieutenant General Leonard F. Anderson IV, commander of U.S. Marine Forces Reserve, instructed reservists to review their readiness amid operations linked to Iran.

It warned that a large-scale mobilization 'could become reality' and stressed that readiness would be 'assumed, not questioned'.

Right now, thousands of US troops and Marines are arriving in the Middle East for what could become a dangerous new phase of the war.

Plans under consideration include Special Operations raids, seizure of Kharg Island and clearing Iranian coastal sites threatening shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
