Fantastic to attend the @ASPET 2023 meeting! Was a great pleasure to present our work on how natural plant extracts activate arterial Kv7 channels, in collab with Geoff Abbott.
Thanks to @IAGreeno for organizing this great session and @BritPharmSoc and @sophionbio for sponsoring
Day 1 of the ASPET meeting in St Louis. With Sam presenting his poster on the colchicine trial in hypertensive rats today. Looking forward to the exciting programme and talks in the coming days!

The Vascular Biology group ready for the Educational Programme at the European Society for Microcirculation conference #ESM2023 💫@DCAcademyDK @BiomedUCPH
Thank you @DCAcademyDK for the award of best poster presentation at #summerDCAcademy. Was great to be part of this meeting and hearing excellent talks within cardiovascular research!
@GomezLabPitt1 In our study, NAPQI is activating Kv7 channels found on SMCs to cause a vasodilation. This effect is both direct and indirectly by causing CGRP release from the perivascular nerves.
@Krispy_ed@GomezLabPitt1 We speculate these residues are involved in the activation of Kv7.4/5 by NAPQI but our future studies will look at this in more detail. Gamper et al 2006 found no evidence of Sglutathionylation on Kv7.4 but it cannot be ruled out. We plan to look at this in future in @tajepps lab
@GomezLabPitt1 As respect to COVID-19, worldwide more patients will be in intensive care units, those with pain & fever might be receiving IV paracetamol. We hope, by discovering this mechanism, that in the future we can develop a way to avoid the hypotension, for example blocking Kv7 channels
@GomezLabPitt1@GomezLabPitt1 Indeed very timely and I would like to point out that people should follow guidance on taking paracetamol instead of ibuprofen, our study only looks at the mechanisms behind hypotension associated with IV paracetamol
@GomezLabPitt1 In this group our main focus is to investigate new mechanisms that regulate arterial tone in order to get a better understanding of how vascular diseases, such as hypertension, develop.
@GomezLabPitt1 Honoured to be part of the #AskTheATVBFirstAuthors chat today! I am in my second year of my PhD and part of the Vascular Biology Group run by @tajepps at the University of Copenhagen.
