@DdasguptaD Isn't the present just a transition from future to past? #21Lit

.@akarppi21st All people who immigrate for the American Dream give up companionship with family and friends. #21Lit

[John V. @vda_202]

@akarppi21st This shows how people focus on what they're escaping from, and disregard the reality of where they are escaping to. #21Lit

[John V. @vda_202]

@21stchristian Does this go against the idea of a superhero being in solitude and coming out to save the world alone? #21Lit

[John V. @vda_202]

#LT In his "big" escape show, Josef is going against Hofzinser's approach and methodology. #21Lit

[John V. @vda_202]

https://t.co/8AQHk5zPOZ "Hofzinser is famous for his minimalistic approach... Rather than presenting large-scale effects." #21Lit

[John V. @vda_202]

.@akarppi21st @jl21lit @cscott21st Is escapism the theme that makes a work of fiction viable in today's world? #21Lit

[John V. @vda_202]

There are already several layers of escapism in the first few chapters of K&C. Will the plot incorporate more and more layers? #21Lit

[John V. @vda_202]

.@jl21lit @cscott21st @akarppi21st The idea of escape has been prevalent in every novel we have read this year--AHWOSG, On Beauty... #21Lit

[John V. @vda_202]

.@akarppi21st Do both novels have the narrative of the hero--or superhero in them? #21Lit

[John V. @vda_202]

The Hispanic movie theme of crossing the border to the US only to find a similar life with a different setting is present in the text.#21Lit

[John V. @vda_202]

@akarppi21st I wonder to which of the characters, or narrators, Oscar's life is "wondrous". #21Lit

[John V. @vda_202]

@akarppi21st I think Yunior sees Oscar as an individual, among the crowd of "Dominican Males," who is different in every aspect. #21Lit

[John V. @vda_202]

@21stchristian Is Yunior affected by Trujillo? I feel like his fukú is not being able to keep a good and steady relationship. #21Lit

[John V. @vda_202]

.@maryclaremcm Maybe the mongoose is a symbol of zafa? A smaller animal that can defeat a larger snake--or a larger fukú? #21Lit

[John V. @vda_202]

I think that Diaz is showing the overlap between Trujillo, sexuality, and the Dominican identity through repetition for reinforcement.#21Lit

[John V. @vda_202]

@maryclaremcm Why do you think Diaz put this allusion here? #21Lit

[John V. @vda_202]

.@cscott21st Is the Fall of Trujillo in there? If not, does Diaz want to show that Trujillo is still alive through his fukú? #21Lit

[John V. @vda_202]

.@akarppi21st I think the sexualization is interesting because we are presented with multiple perspectives and angles on it. #21Lit

[John V. @vda_202]

@akarppi21st .@akarppi21st Also, how much can one change identity through choices? Is any change of innate identity possible? #21Lit
