Back in the 1990s, I was DM and Collector (called DC in northern Sates and UT) in a border district (Barmer). The road to Barmer was narrow single lane and we encountered Army convoy quite often. If one got caught behind a convoy, it used to waste a lot of time. Back then, we had the red beacon too, but even that never helped. We had 2 units around Barmer and winters used to be exercise time too. I discussed it with the COs who advised me of the strict movement protocols the convoys had to follow. So what to do? I mustered up resources and got the road widened to 2 and a half lane. Problem solved for all. I actually became quite popular with the local Army and Air Force brass.
The DC of Kishtwar is not even an IAS officer. Yet his ego is bloated to oversize. If a jam is happening regularly due to Army movement, it is his fault.
Kishtwar Incident: Army's Version of Events (Summary)
According to the Army's account, the incident began after Rashtriya Rifles (RR) civilian vehicles, engaged in official duties, inadvertently delayed the Deputy Commissioner's convoy by 10–20 minutes. Following the delay, the civil administration allegedly ordered the immediate seizure of the Army vehicles, which were taken to Atholi Police Station.
The Army claims the seizure was carried out without following the prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). In an effort to resolve the matter peacefully, the Commanding Officer reportedly sent a Company Commander and a Quick Reaction Team (QRT) to the police station to seek the release of the vehicles through dialogue.
The Army alleges that police personnel locked the station gates and declined repeated requests for discussion. It further claims that after attempts at communication failed, the gates were breached. During the confrontation, a police official allegedly cocked his weapon and threatened the Army personnel, prompting the QRT to intervene, disarm the individual, and secure the area. A physical altercation followed, involving police personnel, including the Station House Officer (SHO).
The Army maintains that the subsequent FIR filed against its personnel resulted from a breakdown in coordination between the civil administration and the Army. The matter remains under investigation, and the claims made by both sides have not been judicially established.

Against All Odds — M. B. Thapa’s Story of Courage and Triumph
Inspired by a proud family tradition of military service, M. B. Thapa joined the #IndianArmy in 1996 and served with distinction in 4/3 Gorkha Rifles, including fighting valiantly during the Kargil War.
His life changed forever when, while travelling to rejoin his unit, he stood up against six armed criminals to protect innocent passengers. Without a moment's hesitation, he fought back single-handedly, placing the lives of others above his own. Alone and outnumbered, he fearlessly confronted the assailants, saving lives, before a bullet struck him from behind, severely damaging his spinal cord and leaving him unable to walk.
But the soldier in him refused to surrender. At PRC, Khadki, Pune, he rebuilt his life through determination, support and sport. Wheelchair Basketball and Swimming became his new mission, leading him to national-level competitions, 30 Gold Medals, 10 Silver Medals, several Bronze Medals and the prestigious Chhatrapati Award.
His journey of resilience carries a powerful message: a wheelchair may challenge movement, but it can never limit courage, purpose or the spirit to serve.

🔥 Kashmir Gulmarg Rescue Operation.
During the rescue of Cabin No 8, stuck at critical height differential, Col GS HAWS Col S S Negi ,VSM volunteered to climb up to the cabin and exec the rescue.

One detail from this Iran war should make every serious state sit up: credible reporting says Israeli leaders were shown an image of Khamenei’s body after it was recovered by Mossad agents - and that Israel had visibility on his fate faster than Iran could even confirm the death of it's supreme leader and shape the narrative. That’s not “tech”. That’s HUMINT + penetration.
Satellites don’t tell you who is in which room at what time. Signals don’t always survive encryption and discipline. What wins you wars and prevents surprises is human access so-urces, moles, defectors, recruited assets - the messy, thankless work of being inside the enemy’s bloodstream.
Israel has no luxury of being lazy at intelligence. It sits in a hostile neighbourhood with actors who openly want it erased. So it builds networks that aren’t “near the border.” They’re near the decision-makers. That’s what survival looks like when geography is unforgiving.
Now bring that lens to India. When you live next to Pakistan’s terror ecosystem and a Bangladesh theatre that keeps throwing up radical modules, you don’t get to be sentimental about “soft power” as a substitute for hard intelligence. You need early warning, deep penetration, counter-infiltration, and ruthless disruption - before the plot becomes a headline.
And this is exactly where the armchair moralists fail India. They love questioning operations after the fact. They hate the boring investments before the fact: intel budgets, source protection, language capability, field tradecraft, inter-agency fusion, and the political spine to back covert work without leaking it for TRPs.
Pop culture and superhit movies like Dhurandhar tells the story really well but makes it look stylish - one hero, one mission, one punchline. Real HUMINT though is the opposite: years of patience, ugly risks, zero credit, and often no medal because the best outcome is “nothing happened.”
This is not about chest-thumping. This is about statecraft. The world is moving into an age where wars are decided by who sees first, knows first, and shapes first. Israel gets that. India must get that - permanently. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and our intelligence apparatus, NEW INDIA definitely gets it.
Because 'terrorist harbouring neighbours' don’t send calendar invites before they strike. They send handlers, money, propaganda, and sleepers. The only answer is being inside that machinery early enough to break it.
If you want deterrence, stop thinking intelligence is an accessory. It’s the foundation.
NFU Case Meeting: A Meeting with the High Powered Committee was held today at South Blocks. The meeting was attended by me (the Lead Petitioner) along with Col Rajiv Manglik & Col AK Mor. The Meeting was chaired by the FADS and few other IAS Offrs of Jt Secy level were the Members. The Committee heard our submissions very patiently and in a very cordial atmosphere. Finally, the Committee requested us to give our Written Submissions in the next couple of days. Overall, it was a good meeting. I am grateful to Col AK Mor for having come all the way from Chandigarh to attend this meeting. For information of all concerned.....
Dear Chiefs @adgpi@IAF_MCC@indiannavy, please support the betterment of those who are under your command.
The Grant of NFU to Armed Forces will help in bringing back the status equivalence of Armed Forces with Civil Services and improve the overall morale of the Armed Forces Officers.
We are ready to personally interact and satisfy any doubts/questions/inhibitions about NFU. Please DO NOT oppose the grant of something JUST because of some misunderstandings about the concept, which can be easily clarified. I reiterate, grant of NFU to Armed Forces will NOT cause any Command & Control issues in our existing command structure.
Let's not get misguided by those few who have vested interests in opposing Status Equivalence.

Indian Army Aviation undertook a high-risk helicopter rescue operation, evacuating stranded civilians and #CRPF personnel from a building surrounded by raging floodwaters and at imminent risk of collapse at Madhopur Headworks, #Punjab. Braving challenging weather and rapidly rising waters, the team’s swift and fearless response ensured every life was brought to safety.
At dawn today, Army Aviation helicopters were launched for a rescue mission that tested nerves, skill and determination.
Despite dangerous flying conditions, Army pilots brought their helicopter down on a building that was already on the verge of collapse — a feat demanding the highest level of flying skills and unmatched bravery. Risking their own lives, the soldiers ensured that every single stranded person was lifted to safety.
In a chilling reminder of what was at stake, the very building on which the helicopter had landed gave way shortly after the evacuation, highlighting the timely and decisive rescue efforts.

First thing First - I am apologizing for calling this officer wrong after seeing the initial videos. I am feeling so bad right now for being taken for a ride and unintentionally tarnishing image of this officer who was going on an emergency leave. No words can express how sorry I feel right now
Secondly - You are absolutely disgusting piece of sh*t @spicejetairlines I thought you released the video so late because your employees didn't get justice. But NO. You clearly had an agenda in mind to hide your own wrong and released compromised videos to fool everyone. How shameless. How ridiculous.
Applaud these officers when they protect us on borders and then release smartly edited video to pretend victim. There should be an FIR on these two staff of yours who attacked a serving officer. I really hope he lodges one.
Social media went crazy blaming him but actual story is totally different from one you projected
ABSOLUTELY WITH ARMY FRATERNITY NOW TO #BOYCOTTSPICEJET
Here's sequence as per my analysis
Boarding gate where Lt col was stopped

What does @flyspicejet now have to say on this?
Heard that they were planning a ‘paid-campaign’ on the issue, instead of acknowledging their fault and apologising to the Army officer & Indian Army.
#Spicejet change your name to #Shamejet#BoycottSpicejet
#boycottspicejet.
Thr inhuman treatment to the passenger wanting to board the flight with only cabin baggage a bit over permissible limit, no check in baggage is deplorable. The pax being a serving army officer deployed in Kashmir going on a short emergency leave not considered.
Did @flyspicejet Staff know that they were dealing with Officer of @adgpi?
If answer is yes, then, Airline needs to Do More !
#BoycottSpicejet
All else is immaterial, if Staff knew they were dealing with Military Personnel or, Veteran
