My boyfriend introduced me as his cousin at his company’s biggest event. I smiled, played along, and did something the next morning that made him call me 37 times.
We had been dating for two years.
He knew my friends.
I knew his family.
I’d even lent him $4,500 when his business was struggling.
So when he invited me to his company’s awards dinner, I thought he was finally ready to take our relationship to the next level.
I spent $180 on a dress and got my hair done.
We arrived together.
He held my hand in the car.
But the moment we entered the venue, he let go.
A woman approached us.
Woman: “Hi, Daniel! Who’s this?”
My boyfriend smiled.
Him: “Oh, this is my cousin, Ella.”
I actually thought I’d misheard him.
The woman laughed.
Woman: “You never mentioned you had such a beautiful cousin!”
He laughed too.
I stood there, smiling like an idiot.
When she walked away, I pulled him aside.
Me: “Why did you introduce me as your cousin?”
Him: “Please don’t start.”
Me: “I’m your girlfriend.”
Him: “This is a professional event. I don’t want people discussing my personal life.”
I stared at him.
Me: “Then why bring me?”
He leaned closer and whispered:
“Don’t embarrass me tonight. We’ll talk at home.”
I spent the rest of the evening pretending I was fine.
Then I noticed something.
A woman across the room kept looking at him.
Eventually, she walked over, kissed his cheek and whispered something in his ear.
He smiled at her in a way he hadn’t smiled at me all evening.
And when she walked away, he watched her go.
I didn’t cry.
I didn’t confront him.
I simply finished my drink and went home alone.
Jack Doherty is no longer allowed to post on social media after signing a contract with a gambling website without reading it, which stated that he couldn’t post on social media.
The company’s CEO responded, saying, “Money well spent to get this mf off the internet.”
my late sister and i used to play a game called “homeless for a night” where we would lie to our mom about where we are spending the night and then we’d spend the night on the streets. we had a set of rules (that we never followed) and we usually would last until 6am.
The fact that we've created the ability to make water-resistant phones like this enough to recover this sort of accidental footage is kinda crazy to me. I remember when dropping anything electronic in water would instantly destroy it.
