I do this to the students who live in my building about move out but obv can’t change their grades so I tell them to come to my office and I’ll give them chips/candy. In 2 years, no one has showed up. they email me later like “why did I get charged? :/”

@electrolimes @arbelista obviously some of them do read the email/their housing contract, because I have never had to charge 100% of my residents. but I DO have to charge a disproportionately large % of residents (that gets bigger every year) and I suspect not reading the email is related.

@lucestuous the only way to get students to meet with me / their RA is to offer food. so I get how it sounds, and also they literally will ignore me if I don’t have anything. At least with snacks/candy in my office I can offer them to students who haven’t eaten all day.

@harriets_lb @orcaboy77 @colulumbina they can get charged for not leaving on time. at some schools I’ve worked they can also be charged for leaving trash behind or items they’re not supposed to in their dorm (i.e. an electric scooter is a fire hazard and has to get removed by maintenance, so they charge a fee)

@colulumbina I’m staff, not faculty. So I manage their dorm and make sure they move out at assigned periods in their housing contract (Thanksgiving, winter break). If they don’t move out properly they’re assessed a fee
