It actually felt brave when Sinead O’Connor tore up a photo of the pope on SNL in 1992 or when the Dixie Chicks criticized Bush and the Iraq war in 2003. They were saying things that were considered controversial at the time and lost career opportunities & a huge portion of their fan bases. It took balls, and refusing to apologize after the backlash did too.
After a decade or more of this nonsense, I can’t believe we’re STILL expected to applaud celebrities for saying the most widely accepted and politically correct opinions at every single award show. Just completely meaningless.
i'm happy that the voice of Hind Rajab is nominated for an Oscar & i hope it wins, but i find it interesting that western institutions will recognize & award stories abt Palestinians as the west actively slaughters them. they're to be consumed as content, not saved from genocide.
this is the third movie of of three i care about this awards season (sinners and frankenstein still above her) but one of the best movies to come out of last year please watch friends
