In July 2020, Parliament approved a loan of 43 million pounds to provide 89 prefabricated bridges.

The Fourth Estate has found that only 15 of the bridges have been installed. 25 have been abandoned in two government yards in the Eastern region.

The whereabouts of the remaining 45 are unclear.

The Ghana Highway Authority and the Ministry of Roads will not give reasons why the bridge parts have been abandoned. They have not responded to our requests for interview and information.

I paid a working visit to the Passport Head Office yesterday to congratulate management and staff for emerging as the most transformed and least corrupt public institution according to the recent Ghana Statistical Service report.

I announced that all passport administration staff will receive a special bonus next week for their impressive output as highlighted by the GSS Survey.

We shall continue with our radical reforms driven by integrity, professionalism, innovation, client satisfaction and excellence.

Here are 10 Exciting Facts about Ghana’s Remarkable Passport Reset:

1) Ghana now has one of the most advanced and secured chip-embedded passports in the world;
2) Our passports are now considered amongst the most valuable on the continent with premium visa waiver status;
3) All passport application backlogs have been cleared;
4) Passports are processed in a few working days (under 15 days) without middlemen or “goro boys”;
5) Processing fees have been reduced by 30% to make access to passports affordable;
6) Courier services have been introduced to enhance convenience and ensure fast deliveries at no extra cost;
7) Same day passport processing is now possible;
8) Digital tracking has been introduced;
9) Enhanced security protocols to prevent foreigners from illegally acquiring Ghanaian passports;
10) Passport Application Centres are now available in all 16 regions for the first time in Ghana’s history.

The Ghana we all deserve! Responsible governance

Ghana just paid US$700 million it owed on Eurobonds (dollar loans from foreign investors) — and paid it early on July 2.

Breakdown of the payment:
$525 million → repaying the original loan
$175 million → interest

This is part of the debt restructuring deal after Ghana’s earlier economic challenges.

Since January 2025, Ghana has paid $2.1 billion in total to these bondholders.

Why it’s positive:
- Paid using planned money (no big drain on dollar reserves).
- Shows disciplined debt management.
- Builds trust with investors.

Before leaving Accra for Nairobi, I signed into law three transformative bills recently passed by Parliament. The Legal Education Act, the Value for Money Office Act, and the Governance Advisory Council Act strengthen our institutions and protect the interests of every Ghanaian.

The Legal Education Act is a game-changer for our justice system. By ending the exclusive authority of the Ghana School of Law over professional legal education, we are introducing healthy competition and opening doors for more institutions to provide high-quality training. This ensures that we maintain the highest standards while creating the space many aspiring lawyers have long waited for.

With the Value for Money Office Act, we are institutionalising the review of major government contracts and expenditures. This office will be our frontline defence against inflated contracts, cost overruns, and wasteful spending. Every cedi spent must provide real value to the people of Ghana.

I am also proud to have signed the Governance Advisory Council Act. This fulfils a key promise I made to promote good governance and public trust. This independent body will help our efforts to combat corruption. It also ensures that leadership remains accountable to the people.

Great that this deliberate “mistake” is taken down now by the A-G. Otherwise, at a hour the ORAL effort would have been sabotaged by a mischief, challenging in the courts authority of the OSP without an explicit take-action instruction by the AG.

Article 88 of the Constitution of Ghana headed THE ATTORNEY GENERAL states in sub-sections 1 to 4 as follows.

1. “There shall be an Attorney-General of Ghana who shall be a Minister of State and the principal legal adviser to the Government.

2. The Attorney – General shall discharge such other duties of a legal nature as may be referred or assigned to him by the President or imposed on him by this constitution or any other law.

3. The Attorney – General shall be responsible for the initiation and conduct of all prosecutions of criminal offences.

4. All offences prosecuted in the name of the Republic of Ghana shall be at the suit of the Attorney – General or any other person authorized by him in accordance with any law”.

The constitution could not be clearer, and I just wonder why Parliament managed to deceive itself into believing that an independent office of Special Prosecutor was possible.

Let’s cut the noise and deal with the reality.

From the Lecture Halls of Legon to the Moon: Celebrating Christina Koch

I join the University of Ghana and the entire nation in celebrating NASA Astronaut Christina Koch on her historic membership of the Artemis II mission.

It is a point of immense pride to learn that Christina, the only woman on this pioneering lunar mission, was once an exchange student at our very own University of Ghana during the 1999/2000 academic year.

Her time at Legon was not just a passing visit; she truly immersed herself in our culture and heritage. By studying the History of Ghana, the History of Africa, Rural Sociology, Music, and even Twi for Beginners, she built a foundation of global citizenship right here in Accra.

Her gesture of hoisting the Ghanaian flag in outer space was a deeply touching moment for every Ghanaian. It is a testament to the fact that no matter how far one travels, even into the vastness of space, the friendships made and the lessons learned stay with you.

Christina’s journey from the classrooms of the University of Ghana to the frontiers of space exploration serves as a powerful inspiration to every young Ghanaian. It reminds us that our educational institutions continue to produce and shape global leaders who break barriers and reach for the stars.

On behalf of a proud nation, I wish Christina Koch and the entire Artemis II crew godspeed on your return journey to earth. May your success continue to inspire generations across Ghana, Africa, and the world to believe that there's no height that is insurmountable.

Yes! A bold step forward for a boarder less Africa for Africans

President John Mahama has today announced that the Government of Ghana has decided to introduce a free visa regime for all Africans who wish to visit Ghana.

The new policy takes effect on May 25, a day which is commemorated as Africa Day.

President Mahama made the declaration during the inaugural State Visit of President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe to Ghana.

Ghana seeks to consolidate its credentials as the cradle of Pan-Africanism even as it expects a major boost in tourism and intra-African trade by this groundbreaking reform.

The Free Visa for Africans would be a component of a new e-Visa policy the Mahama Administration is launching next month.

President Mahama also assured that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would continue with its intentional and determined effort at securing more Visa Waiver Agreements for Ghanaian passport holders. Since last year, 23 Visa Waiver Agreements have been negotiated for Ghanaians.
