Family electrical use is going out the window! Baking, devices per kid (game, laptop &cellphone), music, woodworking in baseboard heated garage, sewing machine, steamer and iron. And hot-tub later. #electricity#offpeakpricingCovid19#onpoli#gregRicford#fordnation
A retired General just made the point that Donald Trump is currently ineligible to be volunteer for the Army because he is a convicted felon. But he wants to be our Commander in Chief.
At a basic level, any government concerned about affordability would not invent minister positions as a workaround to increase appointed MPPs' salaries, let alone do this before extending their vacations by seven weeks. All on the public dime. https://t.co/u9kvOFoQT4
Corners stores in neighbourhoods are good. Foundational, even, to a walkable city.
Overregulation of the wrong things is the problem, here.
That the City would have its knickers in a knot over an expresso machine where one ought not to be in a city where cars regularly park in bike lanes and tents are set up permanently in city parks is remarkable.
This simply should not be an issue.
Yesterday, was a heartbreaking day for many in our community .... our beautiful St. Anne's Anglican Church was engulfed in flames.
When I arrived at the scene, I struggled for words. Congregants stood in shock. Neighbours in tears.
Hope. 💜
Congrats @oliviachow on this well-deserved moment & an even bigger congrats to the people of our city who now have someone leading for them, by them, and with care at the core.
At last. #TOPoli
The lineup for the food bank on walk to hospital now goes around the block. Never been this bad. And food insecurity drives more people to the emergency room or to hospitalization. Food banks are band aids. Not a policy solution the same way shelters won’t end homelessness.
Tomorrow when the new mayor @oliviachow is declared into office we @Retrocity80s and myself get to sing her in. I’ve played a lot of venues but the council chambers is a new one. Fun is the operative word. #riseandshareyourpower
Today, I sat down with the team from @YWCAToronto to discuss affordable, supportive housing and intimate partner violence.
Glad to talk about the successes of YWCA and how we can keep growing their reach for those who need their important help
Islamophobia has no place in Toronto.
Earlier, I joined the launch of our latest ‘Toronto For All’ campaign—focusing on anti-Islamophobia.
It is an important reminder: it will take all of us to confront and eliminate Islamophobia.

It's not every day one gets to join a salsa dance off also featuring mayor-elect of Toronto @oliviachow!
@SalsaInToronto, crew & volunteers, @HillcrestBIA#tostpauls community members, and visitors cheering us on😀
THANK YOU for a GRAND time! Today's DAY 2! #StClairWest
Olivia Chow is right to talk about saving hundreds of millions of dollars by not rebuilding the east end of the Gardiner Expressway: op-ed in @globeandmail.
'And she’s right to push higher levels of government to pick up costs their policies impose on Toronto – as she did earlier this week when she accused the federal government of “not paying a cent” for the large number of refugee claimants in the city’s homeless shelters.'

Toronto needs more housing of all kinds—especially homes you can afford.
Earlier today with @UWGreaterTO, I met public, private, and community partners to discuss community-focused models for building new housing—like what they’ve pioneered in Scarborough’s Golden Mile.
Today in 1886, Chief Poundmaker died.
Born around 1842 near present-day Battleford into a Cree-Assiniboine family, Poundmaker gained his name Pihtokahanapiwiyin due to his special ability to attract bison into pounds.

Americans: I use miles and pounds
Europeans: I use kilometres and kilograms
Canadians: [snorting a line of assorted measuring systems] I'm 5'3, I weigh 150lbs, horses weigh 1000kgs, my house is an hour away and I drive 80 km/h to get there, I need a cup of flour and 1L of milk
The fact that Toronto voted @oliviachow as mayor is a signal that people are done with austerity & policies that hurt the most vulnerable. People want better public spaces, transit, housing & compassion for the most vulnerable.
Optimism. Hope. Change.
It's a new day Toronto 🙏🏾
