Restoring voting rights (and increasing civic engagement) among people with records can benefit community safety! https://t.co/SFEwtiQByg
What does NOT make communities safer? Locking people with records out of jobs. https://t.co/MFztWgbKqY
This #SecondChanceMonth state advocates & researchers from North Carolina to Colorado worked to guarantee voting rights for persons completing their sentence inside & outside of prison and jail and for persons post-sentence.

This was way out of my comfort zone. (Torture designed specifically for me? Looking into it🧐)
But I strive to be a strong ally of the people with records who power the #FairChance movement.
Thank you to Sandra Johnson at @LegalAidAtWork for letting me share her story🩷
NELP Senior Staff Attorney @veryBeth_A is on this week's episode of @OpentoDebateOrg to dispel myths around #FairChance policies and argue for #BanTheBox, a necessary step toward achieving fairness for workers with conviction histories. https://t.co/HXUB9WAO8k
Thanks @OpentoDebateOrg for drawing attention to the challenges faced by workers with records this #SecondChanceMonth
(and for having me on to discuss #FairChance/#BantheBox policies and the fact that *more* is needed to promote the rights of ppl w/ arrest & conviction records)

Sincere thanks to my @NELPNews colleagues and the advocates at @SaferFoundation and @CGLA for their partnership and important contributions to this guide. 🙏❤️
In a multi-year collaboration w/@CGLA & @SaferFoundation, we released a fair chance hiring toolkit to help guide financial services employers toward opening their hiring to job applicants with arrest & conviction records (while complying w/ fed’l law): https://t.co/fwbjp6zl37
Broader, systemic changes are clearly also necessary to address the ongoing effects of mass criminalization and racism in the labor market. Looking forward to continuing those fights with my incredible colleagues and our allies.
We at NELP know that Julie Su is the most qualified and best choice to be our next Secretary of Labor. Join us in urging our Senators to move forward with speedy nominations hearings and confirmation process! #ConfirmJulieSuNow
Our latest report finds that while almost 40% of CA workers experience workplace violations, few report them, and the majority of those that do, experience some sort of employer retaliation, such as unfair termination, as a result: https://t.co/4XCQLSJV6U #EndUnjustFirings
In prison nothing is free. Not even toothpaste. The cost of hygiene products increased again today. Toothpaste used to be $3.85 and now it's $6.10. That's over 14 hours working a prison job to afford one tube of toothpaste.
Anyway, congrats to the players and @MLBPA.
Oh, and to close the loop: I'm open to tips on how to get my 2.5yr old to nap instead of lying in his crib shouting "I'm Julio! Julio Rodriguez!!!!" over and over and over... @JRODshow44
My toddler is obsessed with baseball. (More specifically the @Mariners; most specifically, Julio Rodriguez @JRODshow44)
So, as a mom and workers' rights advocate, I appreciate seeing baseball set a good example with the @MLBPA unionization of minor league players this week.
