A happy 55th birthday 🎂to The Persuaders! First seen here in the Anglia ITV region on this day back in 1971. The ultimate tongue-in-cheek action adventure series. Mini buddy movies offering escapist fun.
The single that never was. 💥
“Superblaster” was scheduled to be the second single from Cuckoo. CD singles were pressed and the band even shot a surprisingly colourful video. However, the release was ultimately shelved, bringing the Cuckoo era to a rather abrupt end.
The single’s b-sides, “Low And Behold” and “Nothing Without Me”, eventually reached a wider audience when they were included on the 2004 compilation “The Way of Curve”.
Had “Superblaster” been released, what would you have picked as the album’s third single?

Missing Link was the lead single from Cuckoo and the launch track for the parent Blackerthreetracker EP from which it was taken. The single reached number 39 in the U.K. singles chart and featured b-sides On The Wheel and Triumph, as well as as the “Screaming Birds” remix of Missing Link by Trent Reznor.

Curve’s second album, “Cuckoo”, took flight on this day in 1993. Now 33 years old, it is still regarded as one of the band’s finest moments.
The album spawned just one single, “Missing Link”, released via the Blackerthreetracker EP. A second single, “Superblaster”, was planned but ultimately shelved, despite physical singles being pressed and a video being shot.
“Cuckoo” reached number 23 in the UK Albums Chart and was followed by the band’s temporary split the following year, before Curve reunited in 1996.
Happy Birthday, Cuckoo! 🖤

#OnThisDay in 1997, The Verve released "The Drugs Don't Work", the second single off of "Urban Hymns"
The song was NME's single of the week and was ranked #7 on Channel 4's "100 Greatest #1 Singles"
A frantic guitar riff announced a tougher side of Ocean Colour Scene when “Hundred Mile High City” arrived in 1997. Written by the band and produced with Brendan Lynch, the track would later open their third album Marchin’ Already. Released as the album’s first single, it reached No. 4 in the UK and was later featured in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. This Top of the Pops performance on 4 July 1997 came months before Marchin’ Already was released. When the album finally arrived that September, it entered the UK chart at No. 1, famously knocking Oasis’ Be Here Now from the top.
