@theBuoyantMan Agreed. Google docs AI panel sucks. Microsoft's copilot sucks even more. Claude's plugin for Word is decent. Ironically an outsider has made a better layer on top of word than the insiders (Microsoft & OpenAI)
Massive opportunity to be unlocked.
@karlmehta I only see a future where a strong generic reasoning model wins and all org knowledge packed as a repository of info wrapped around this reasoning engine.
That's the perfect setup. Automated reasoning that works on evolving data.
@karlmehta Surprised to see such naive takes coming from a deep thinker like Sathya.
Models are incapable of forgetting information and adjusting to new information. And org knowledge evolves every day.
@kssreeram@thdxr Would that incentivise systems to have long living AI entities. Entities that are capable of long term memory accumulation and driven enough to start and maintain projects on their own?
Of course, that's not the status quo today but I can't deny this won't happen eventually
@kssreeram@thdxr I had this thought experiment:
As of today AI systems need a human driver and frugal context management.
What happens if the current 1Million context limit is broken to infinity and GPUs get extremely cheap?
@kssreeram@shankar_iyyer@svembu Isn't the WeChat ecosystem one such category? I mean the model is so successful that Elon's planning to replicate it with X as far as I know
I was nerd sniped into integrating this with ProseMirror to enable the "holy grail" of rich text editing on the web.
Document layout with page breaks!
More to come... but back to my birthday weekend.
Online demo in thread
@JacobColling@JungleSilicon Pagination, line wrappings around images and any print media related output targets. Prosemirror outsourced all that to browser DOM, while pretext let's the library control where/how every character is rendered.
@jordwalke I'm genuinely curious: what does this unlock that skia-wasm / canvaskit didn't already? Skia already has text layout APIs and it's wasm build is what I thought bridges the gap in browser APIs?
@jlongster@_chenglou Hi @jlongster - I want to fit this into my mental model. If I want to write a text layout engine, then ideally I use canvas measuretext API or use dom hacks like getBoundingClientRect API.
Does pretext make this easier? How should I see this?
@_chenglou I understand we can now layout text without dom/getboundingclientrect. But if I'm writing a text layout engine and using canvas measuretext API underneath - how is it different from using pretext?
Or is this meant to make the job easier than manually using measuretext?
@_vgnsh Exactly how I feel. The sharp contrast between human friction at day job vs the ecstasy of seeing my personal claude boy bringing ideas to life!
@deepaklearner@svembu Heads up: Zoho's suite will include a Markdown editor, yet to be launched-a few weeks from now!
You can also import Markdown files into Zoho Writer for editing. Or copy/paste markdown content into Writer and convert them into formatted text.
Disclaimer: I work for Zoho.

That is indeed the plan. Arattai is planned to be an ecosystem and chat is just the start. That platform will accomodate everything from buying online to booking bus/train/movie tickets. It might take time but it's definitely coming! 🔥
