Hands down. I was taught to outsource my worthiness and confidence, and I simply could not tolerate what happened when I went against the status quo and stopped getting pat on the back for being a good girl!
I was invited to give an MLK speech today and a small number of members of the group hosting me wrote and then leaked emails opposing my giving this speech, as it dishonored Dr. King for me to do so. They called me a "discredited activist" "unworthy of such association with King"
May you find and create spaces where you don’t have to fight, defend, anticipate, perform, prove your humanity.
May you have space to breathe, be, create, and bloom.
Let it be so.
Leaders must own their DEI work. Of course, DEI execs can consult and guide you, but each business unit leader must make this work personally important and prioritize it if they want to be effective leaders.
