Takeaways from today’s round that no one asked for…
>50°, damp & windy is a bit chilly. Yes, Midwest friends, I’ve gotten soft out here.
>I couldn’t hit it much worse but not sure it’s possible to chip & putt any better! Putter was 🔥.
>Really like Cross Creek. Fun, interesting layout. Just wish it wasn’t an hour drive.
>Really, really need to get my driver swing sorted out. May be time to put @LeBaronGolf or @shkeengolf on speed dial. ⛳️
@jliebertgolf Fortunate to play it 3 times & completely agree. So much to take in & so still much subtlety in design. Truly great land & layout. ⛳️
Drawers full of clubs and walls covered in shafts are mostly for show and designed to offer every option - but that doesn’t mean you have to try everything!
Great fitters don’t waste your time hitting clubs that aren’t designed for you.
@BryanTweed16 A6: Teeing it at @CrossCreekGolf on Saturday morning for the first time in a long time. Single joining in so no idea who I’m playing with. Really like the course but the 1st tee shot is really tough. Already on my mind. ⛳️ #golfchat
A4: Accidentally hit my tee shot into the group in front earlier this year, immediately went to apologize & they were NOT happy. Didn’t hit anyone but apparently it was very close. I managed to stay calm but they did not. Got read the riot act again after the round too. 🤷♂️⛳️ #golfchat
A2: As long as it’s not a competition &/or compare their score to mine, I truly don’t care what someone writes down on a hole. Enjoy the game the way you want. As for Mr. Rules, as long as they know what they’re talking about, I’m fine with that too. Those things don’t typically bother me. 🤷♂️⛳️
@BryanTweed16 A1: Slow play in general & not being ready to hit when it’s your turn specifically. One time, checking your phone or finishing a story, sure, no problem. But over & over during a round really gets to me. Be ready to play! ⏱️⛳️😡 #golfchat
One of the great images in major championship history -
10 year old Eddie Lowery and 20 year old Francis Ouimet at Brookline in 1913.
Eddie went on to become a champion himself after winning the Massachusetts Amateur in 1927 and later built a fortune as a multi-millionaire auto dealer in San Francisco and sponsor of Ken Venturi and Harvie Ward.
@LinksNation@goathillpark Love @goathillpark & definitely worth playing/experiencing but they’ve had some green issues recently. They are working on getting them back but #16 is being completely redone. Maybe pass this time around. Closer to LA, Rustic Canyon is awesome. ⛳️
So, I got out at 8:50am! Yay me! Got to play with the head pro, his wife & another guy who works at the course. Fun group! I played well for most of the round but a couple of poor driver swings derailed my score. Again. As has happened several times lately. Really, REALLY need to figure out the cause & fix. ⛳️😡
Pitch dark, 35 minute drive to the course without a tee time. Drizzly & windy. At the shop 10 minutes before it opens (65 minutes before the first group) & still not first in line. SoCal golf scene for you. Wish me luck! ⛳️
@Top100Rick Agreed, truly awful. We’ve all hit our ankle with a putter or wedge at some point but have never heard of this ending though. Be careful out there!
Got the full story on this today… Guy hit a bunker shot, went to knock the sand off his shoes with his wedge & accidentally hit his ankle instead. Hard. Took an awkward step getting out of the bunker & turned what was likely already a break into a compound fracture! 😳☹️🩼⛳️
I’m a morning tee time guy but chased daylight yesterday for the first time in a long time. Finally drove it OK & punched greens didn’t help scoring but the real story was the ambulance by 13 green. Not sure I’ve ever seen one on a course before. Saw it when we were on 4 & didn’t get the story until we cart girl came around on 7… Guy broke his ankle, COMPOUND FRACTURE, walking off the green. No idea how that’s even possible but wish him a full & speedy recovery. 🚑⛳️
