A Tale of Two Cases: The Contrast of Justice and Injustice
Case 1: The Mumbai Terror Attacks
On the night of 26th November 2008, India was attacked—Mumbai was drenched in terror and blood. 300 people injured, 166 people killed, including 26 foreigners and 20 members of the Indian security forces. Amidst this carnage stood Ajmal Kasab, a terrorist sent by the Lashkar-e-Taiba to unleash hell on Indian soil.
Kasab, caught red-handed and later confessing to his crimes, faced the weight of 86 criminal charges, including murder, waging war against India, and terrorism. Despite the unspeakable horrors he inflicted, India upheld its commitment to justice and humanity.
For nearly nine months, court proceedings were conducted daily. Kasab was provided with:
•Legal counsel to ensure a robust defense.
•Interpreters to bridge language barriers.
•Medical care, regardless of his crimes.
•Top-tier security, safeguarding his right to life during trial.
When his death sentence was upheld by the Bombay High Court in February 2011, he appealed to the Supreme Court, which carefully reviewed the evidence. As a last resort, Kasab was allowed to file a mercy petition to the President of India. India’s judiciary and executive system ensured every step adhered to the principles of fairness, due process, and human rights.
On 21st November 2012, justice was served, but only after the world witnessed the extraordinary patience and integrity of India’s democratic framework.
India’s handling of Kasab’s case stands as a testament to its unwavering belief in human rights, social tolerance, free and fair trials, and secularism—values that remain the bedrock of its identity even in the face of unparalleled provocation.
Case 2:
Now contrast this with the tragic silence surrounding Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu, Bangladesh.
The Hindu Monk Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu in Bangladesh, just raised his voice for Hindu minorities when they are being oppressed by Bangladesh interim Govt headed by ‘ 2006 Nobel Peace Prize Winner’
Sri Muhammed Yunus.
And he got arrested on charges of sedition.
Despite his innocence plea, he faces:
•No legal assistance.
•No representation in court.
•No access to a free and fair trial.
The cries of justice have been muffled by fear, apathy, and prejudice. The very idea of a fair trial—a universal human right—is denied to him.
A Call to Action for the World
To the pseudo-secularists, the self-proclaimed champions of human rights, and the world leaders who espouse justice as their guiding principle:
•Where is your voice?
•Where is your outrage?
•Why does justice wear a different face in different lands?
India showed the world what true justice looks like—even for a terrorist. It is now time for the global community to rise above selective activism and speak up for those like Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu, who are denied their most basic rights. Justice is not justice if it is selective. The world must act now, for the soul of humanity depends on it.
