4500 homeless people in all of nyc, apparently.
the numerator is stupid too -- the spending is on shelters and the point-in-time population count literally excludes everyone in shelters
NYC spends more per homeless person than the median NYC household earns. $81,705 per person in FY2025.
And $81,705 is a floor. It excludes supportive housing (~$500M/yr), mental health response teams, and NYPD encampment costs.
The city projects ~$97K per person in FY2026.
@Vidor1@aarmlovi you own a house worth $100k. It gets upzoned. I buy your house for $200k, demolish it, build a midrise condo building, and sell 8 homes for $50k each. Your asset increased in value and housing got cheaper.
on your deathbed, you won't wish you spent more time working. you will wish you had more conversations with guys who look and dress like you, where you take turns naming bands and movies
the barbarism of capitalism produces a deranged, criminal lumpen class. could be a winning issue for the left if we were willing to accept even the most basic truths about reality
@chris_borg99 something about property taxation breaks even reasonable people's brains. 95% of the population is incapable of understanding tax go down price go up
