Actor and singer #WilbertRoss may have his share of admirers today, but his sister #MikyathRoss proved that nobody can roast him quite like family.
Reacting to Wilbert’s recent interview with Toni Gonzaga, Mikyath shared funny stories about her brother’s early showbiz journey, from his confidence as a hometown heartthrob to his struggles to establish himself in Manila.
Mikyath recalled how Wilbert used to think he was the most handsome guy in their hometown, only to discover that Manila was a different playing field.
“Siya ang pinakagwapo sa among bukid, pero pag-abot sa Manila, murag na lang siyang butiki!” she jokingly said, teasing her brother for going from a hometown heartthrob to just another face in the big city.
But the sibling roasting did not stop at his looks.
Mikyath also recalled Wilbert’s financial struggles when he first moved to Manila to pursue his showbiz dreams. With limited money, he had to make do with repeatedly wearing the same jacket while trying to meet the expectations of an aspiring celebrity.
“Uy, ginawa ko, asa man ta kuhaon ning mga kwarta?” she quipped, recalling how difficult it was to afford new clothes.
According to Mikyath, Wilbert remained determined to become an actor despite being encouraged to consider other career options, including continuing his engineering studies or finding work elsewhere.
His persistence, however, came with its share of setbacks. Mikyath said Wilbert struggled to secure projects during his early years in showbiz, leaving him discouraged as he tried to find his place in the industry.
She also recalled how the lack of acting opportunities affected her brother emotionally, saying he experienced depression during that difficult period and turned his feelings into a song.
Despite the serious struggles behind Wilbert’s journey, Mikyath recounted his experiences with the kind of humor only a sister could get away with.
She also poked fun at their childhood, joking that their parents seemed to favor Wilbert because he enjoyed singing and dancing.
“Unfair kaayo akong ginikanan! Si Mama, grabe ka-unfair niya!” she exclaimed, recalling how her brother would get opportunities to perform while she felt left out.
Mikyath even jokingly complained about not having the same talent, admitting that she would get annoyed whenever Wilbert was the one asked to sing.
From his so-called butiki days in Manila to his repeatedly worn jacket and childhood talent-show advantage, Mikyath’s recollections offered a funny glimpse into Wilbert’s life before he found his footing in showbiz.
