BTW, you can do similar for homework. My kids were told I trust them to do their work so they are free to do whatever they want after school until dinner. Tv, hang w friends, gaming, but after dinner ONLY once their homework was completed. If they chose not to do it, the next day due to “not being responsible” they had to sit and do the homework instead of hang w friends.

You have to make it optional, but preferable. I lied on their required reading journals and told the teachers I would continue to do so. I also put an optional 1/2 hr at bedtime to choose to read o stead of go to sleep. Then they read whatever they wanted. My son originally chose cartoons, then Butt Wars but quickly moved to Harry Potter.

@RobMcNealy @educator4ever36 Have a 1/2 hr optional reading time at bedtime. They can go to bed or read. Then let them read whatever they want: cartoons, the cheat codes/strategy to their favorite video game, Butt Wars From Space, etc.

@GenZMultifamily I’ve living in 4 states and owed 10 houses in my life. Only 6 months have I lived in a rental. So, maybe that’s why. However, in So Cal, none of our thousands of units were without a garbage disposal, although many lacked air conditioning.

@JamesAFurey If delayed bathroom trips are a genuine problem for your child, a doctors note will require the teacher to let your child use the toilet at any time. I did this for my 6 year old.

@insularcortex42 @realEstateTrent Despite camp being fun, some kids felt like their parents just wanted the summer without them. A week or two is fun, but 8 weeks is different.

@insularcortex42 @realEstateTrent Mostly the male staff. In my personal experience as a camper I’d put it at ~5%, back in the day. Probably higher now. However, also a problem with older campers if they have access to younger kids. Think school minus the responsible adults.
