Spent a few hours today looking at bits of crystal mush that are included in the lithic lags associated with the large caldera-forming eruptions. There are some impressive crystals @emmalouisehorn
Last week we had a great time visiting @GEO3BCN_CSIC in Barcelona and carried out some tephra sampling. 🥼🌋We also took a trip to see some of the volcanic cones of La Garrotxa.
Just back from sampling some tephra and sediment cores in Barcelona. It was great to work with the @GEO3BCN_CSIC team. Also managed to see some of the volcanic cones of La Garrotxa and the impressive @espai_crater volcano museum

📢Our paper on the magnitude and dispersal of the Millennium eruption from Changbaishan is now online: https://t.co/dq7ghbxRSA A collaborative effort involving researchers from @INGVvulcani@GEO3BCN_CSIC@OxfordTephra
@claire_horwell We often find eruption deposits at distal sites that are not preserved near the volcano. The eruption deposit they found occurred during a cold period, the Late Antique Little Ice Age, and I don’t think they implied it caused it.
