We welcome the acknowledgment by the leaders of India, Brazil and South Africa (IBSA) on the work underway to establish the Heads of State Network for Quality Foundational Learning.
This affirms of our decision as the 7th administration to strategically reorient the basic education system to strengthen the foundations of learning.
The global south has incredible potential for economic productivity due to our youthful population but we must give young people a strong start in life for them to build the literacy and numeracy skills to pursue any career they desire.

This morning I visited Na’luxolo Primary School with @davidmaynier and the @gatesfoundation to witness the @funda_wande programme in action.
Funda Wande develops structured pedagogy materials aimed at training teachers on how to teach reading and maths using an evidence based approach.
I also witnessed mother tongue based bilingual Education in action. International benchmarking tests show that our learners who learn in their mother tongue outperform those who do not.
I also learnt what a Warthog in IsiXhosa 🤭
We are thrilled by the incredible commitment of 13 African nations to eliminate learning poverty in Africa by 2035.
