I really think they should have provided Chris with audio descriptions as he’s really demonstrating how isolating it can be for a visually impaired/blind person without aids to help him. Actually feel really sorry for him! #bigfatquizoftheyear
@dearaunty@Otto_English While it broadly has pre-modern origins, the caste system as it exists today is the result of developments during the British colonial period, which made caste organisation a central mechanism of administration. So you can explain it by... the British Empire
@Nigel_Farage WE DIDN'T HAVE A SMALL BOATS PROBLEM BEFORE BREXIT BECAUSE WE HAD A RETURNS AGREEMENT WITH FRANCE YOU UTTER TWOLLOP.
Voting Reform to 'Stop the boats' is like getting a wolf as a sheepdog to stop them being eaten
They partied , they bet on elections , they crashed the economy, they broke every public service, they destroyed integrity and honesty in public office , they paid their mates billions , they put their friends in the House of Lords, they gave their cronies knighthoods, they went into the jungle , they lied again and again, they were convicted by police, they went on holiday when they shouldn’t and they have the cheek to question Keir Starmer’s work ethic. I would never take anything for granted but I hope they are annihilated on Thursday. The worst people and government we have ever had!
P.S good afternoon all ❤️
Although I'm personally grateful in this scenario, you can tell your voting system is clapped if a party can get a higher predicted voter share by 1% but somehow get 66 LESS seats than another.
FPTP favours a two party system, is democratically flawed and needs to be replaced.
New YouGov/Times poll puts Reform ahead of the Conservatives for the first time.
Lab: 37% (-1)
Reform: 19% (+2)
Con: 18% (nc)
Lib Dem: 14% (-1)
Green: 7 (-1)
Would be a huge majority for Labour with a toss up between Conservatives and Lib Dems as to who came a distant second.
@andreajenkyns "a socialist supermajority and the end of Britain as we know it."
Come on, you don't really believe that do you? What policies will Starmer introduce that will lead to the end of Britain as we know it? Do you think the growing trend of extremist language in UK politics is good?
This f’ing moron is twisting an issue that has only ever been about human suffering into some sort of perverted, fascist, cost benefit analysis
Euthanise the sick so they stop spending public resources?!?? WTAF!!!
This was actually published in The Times!
Truly unbelievable!
Children are starving to death in Gaza and famine is imminent, but this isn't a natural disaster.
The Israeli government is using starvation as a weapon of war.
That war crime should be met with consequences by our government, starting with an end to arms sales to Israel.
Here in London, the pubs are open, people smoke weed in public and same sex couples walk hand in hand through the streets. And Lee Anderson paints this as a terrifying throwback to the heyday of the ISIS caliphate.
Wanting Labour to evict the Tories does not mean accepting every stupid, cowardly or self-destructive decision it makes. It is entirely legitimate to criticise Labour and press it to be bolder while also wanting a change of government.
This should not be hard to understand.
Rachel Reeves has said Labour will NOT reinstate a cap on city bonuses if elected. When Tories scrapped the cap a few months ago Reeves said it showed "everything you need to know" about the Government. Now source says "her priority is stability and growth, not uncertainty".
We cannot simply vote Labour in, blindly accepting whatever rubbish policies they come up with, and feeling grateful that they are not the Tories.
They are not saviours, they are politicians, susceptible to all of the things that all politicians are susceptible to.
UK public debt:
Dec 2023, £2.686trn, 97.7% of GDP
Feb 2020: £1.791tn, 79.1% of GDP
May 2010: £1.03tn, 65% of GDP
Tories borrowed more than all Labour Govts combined.
Squandered on tax cuts for corporations/rich, contracts 4 cronies.
No new industries.
Public services destroyed.
I'm reading a book about Victorian London. Substandard rented housing, widespread child malnutrition, prisons overflowing, sewage spilling into the Thames, streets full of rough sleepers and beggars. Hard to imagine.
Why is Ireland the most outspoken pro-Palestinian nation in the Western world? Why is South Africa the most outspoken pro-Palestinian nation in the whole world? It's not coincidence
Rishi Sunak is a very odd combination of the four Prime Ministers who preceded him
Same suits as Cameron, as robotic as May, as mendacious as Johnson and still as woefully out of his depth as Truss
