My colleagues and I talk this all the time - the disconnect between what’s happening in the K-12 education world and educational research “..if teachers and leaders do not know research exists because they are not reading those journals, what's the point of doing the research?”
Just because some teachers would rather stay in the classroom than go into administration doesn’t mean they aren’t strong leaders. Many have amazing talents that can benefit your school. Effective administrators value them as experts and help maximize their talents and potential.
In our state it’s a lateral move but what’s sad is the connotation that in order to get a “promotion” in the K-12 world you need an admin degree. I know many teachers without an admin degree who deserve more compensation and a seat at the table where decisions are made

When Tier 1 is weak, lots of students look like they need intervention.
When Tier 2 is weak, lots of students look like they need Tier 3 or special education.

It's funny how as adults we act the same way our students do when we are frustrated or need to disconnect. It's the very behaviors we condemn in our classrooms that we display during PD or staff meetings. It was wild to watch.
Remember it's educators that are going to be with students tomorrow.
Trying to figure out the right thing to say.
Trying to provide support.
Trying to navigate the unthinkable.
