This might be one of the most remarkable ways Iโve ever seen football keep someone in the game ๐
Former Middlesbrough and Burnley player Gary Parkinson suffered a devastating stroke in 2010 that left him with locked-in syndrome. He was fully conscious, but unable to move or speak.
Yet his football brain was completely intact โฝ๏ธโ
So his former teammate and then-Middlesbrough manager, Tony Mowbray, found a way to keep him involved.
Gary would watch footage of potential signings and, with help from his family, give his scouting verdict using between one and four blinks.
That detail is incredible ๐
Today, two of Garyโs former clubs, Middlesbrough and Burnley, face each other, with supporters being urged to get behind fundraising for his 24-hour care.
Football gives you far more than a job. For so many people, it becomes part of who you are.
Never be too quick to judge what somebody still has to offer โค๏ธ

@smoggie1976 Great player at points, just not consistent enough. Lost the ball too easily too many times. I'm confident in the team Boro has put together in this window. Excited to see what we can do this season once they really gel. I don't think we will miss him too much......I hope
@GazzSmith4 I don't have any evidence, I'm not a detective. I do have common sense though, and the odds that you only got caught the three times you happened to cheat are slim to zero. Are you going to call me a cunt now? That seems to be your MO.
@saintlavoo We all hate you because you cheated and then gave us shit about it, like we were in the wrong. You are the problem, not the beautiful MFC. I hope you finish bottom of the league where you belong,. #bottomfeeders#UTB
