My new book - Torture and Torturous Violence 👇🏾
So hope it does justice to the survivors & practitioners who created its foundations
Feels very strange to actually hold something that has been an idea for so, so long
"Appeals to security routinely obstruct access to information to hold the Gov to account. Meanwhile, many Afghans are left wondering why their data was on a spreadsheet that could be emailed around with a click on the wrong button." @Vicky_Canning

The 1951 Refugee Convention - drafted with leadership from British politicians - ensured the right for people at risk of persecution to seek asylum in states outside of their own.
An MP has no right to decide otherwise.
No matter how many times he repeats himself.
Receiving even more abuse than normal for stating that Palestinian migrants must NOT be allowed to claim asylum in Britain.
I will repeat myself, just so we're all clear.
Palestinian migrants must NOT be allowed to claim asylum in Britain.
We're in a violence against women epidemic, #Merseyside has the highest rate of women killed by male partners in the country, and the government has... cut sexual violence support funds.
Unfathomable.
Support @rasa_merseyside if you can 👇🏽
These are not all 'psychopaths'.
The only underlying correlation is that the perpetrators of these are all violent men.
Address the underlying issue if you are serious about ending these recurring forms of male violence.
Westminster Bridge.
Finsbury Park.
Jo Cox.
David Amess.
All of those attacks were carried out by self-radicalised single psychopaths.
The PM is being disingenuous by calling this a new threat. I made this very point to the Home Secretary at yesterday's statement 👇🏻
@DavidDavisMP These are not all 'psychopaths'.
The only underlying correlation is that the perpetrators of these are all violent men.
Address the underlying issue if you are serious about ending these recurring forms of male violence.

Delighted that my new Open Access article 'Reframing the Windrush Scandal as an International Statelessness Crisis' is finally out. Based on two years of research across Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago & the UK. https://t.co/0nNnPBcxMo
Important use of the term 'torturer'.
But Ryan Wellings is a violent man, not a 'monster'. The more we mythologise violent men, the more difficult it is to identify and address torturous violence

Times are changing, so we thought we would change (a little) with them.
That’s right, we have changed our look. But don’t panic, this new visual flair doesn’t change our mission.
We will continue exposing state activity that threatens human rights–just as we have since 1991.
First day back and first day of my new @ahrcpress project 'Torture in Transit' - a 4th collaboration with @DignityDK
Working this year with the fantastic rehabilitation team to co-develop support toolkits for refugee survivors of torture and tortuous violence - more to come
@RupertLowe10 As the author of many articles and books about women seeking asylum, can I suggest you look into the reduction of family reunification rights, and the role of gendered political persecution.
Or read.
Or - even better - speak to people seeking asylum.
A defining moment of this trial: #GisèlePelicot, in her final time on the stand, addressed her decision to keep the surname "Pelicot":
"When the trial began, my children were 'ashamed' of the name. I have grandchildren called that. I want them proud. My name is known worldwide now. They shouldn't be ashamed. Today we will remember Gisèle Pelicot."
Never forget what this woman has achieved.

@I_M_I 3/ We also joined civil society in calling for the suspension of the EU-Israel Agreement that facilitates cooperation in areas directly linked to the ongoing genocide of Palestinians.
What will it take for the @EU_Commission & @EUCouncil to change course?

@I_M_I 2/ More specifically, Statewatch and @I_M_I exposed EU funding mechanisms that support Israeli drone technology used in Gaza.
Our research revealed how these funds violate international law and perpetuate oppression and violence.
