Many people don't realize how brave it was for those Christian musicians to take the stage at the memorial. When I was in CCM, we had to go through media coaching that literally trained us to avoid conflict and dodge controversial questions. I'm with @johnlcooper. They understood the risk. It took guts to accept the invitation, and they are getting skewered for it.

This is Jim. He's been living in my basil for the past several weeks and always peeks out to say hi when I'm puttering around the garden. The other day I harvested some basil and put it in a bowl of water to wash it. As I pulled out the leaves, I noticed Jim's lifeless body floating at the top. I was kind of bummed because I liked him. I scooped him out and put him in the trash. 5 hours later, I opened the lid to throw something away and my little survivor sprang out, nearly bounced off my face and landed on the floor. He is now safe and sound back in his basil patch. That is all. Jesus is Lord. Goodnight.

Voddie modeled for me a willingness to challenge popular but unbiblical ideas in ministry circles even at great cost to his own “platform.” There was a time when all the big Christian media outlets were happy to promote him. But when he began to speak out against critical race theory and social justice, they treated him as a fringe voice (if they acknowledged him at all, which was rare)

At one point, in 2020, when I still worked in Christian media, I had booked an interview with him that I had to cancel. Because I was told it would upset my coworkers (people who now work at Christianity Today and The Dispatch) to highlight Voddie’s voice. That was the kind of price he paid.

Big Eva used their “intellectuals” to torpedo his book by publishing false claims of plagiarism and other unfounded accusations. Through it all he remained stalwart and unbending for the sake of truth and the gospel.

This is what he taught me.

Most of the Old Testament characters were terribly flawed and sinful. But Daniel stands out as an inspiration. From a teenager refusing to eat the King's delicacies to an eighty-year-old refusing to stop praying when it was outlawed, he always feared God over man. He was faithful when made second in command to the king and faithful when thrown in a lion's den.

Daniel could not be bought.

There is no defeat in death for the Christian. And Charlie’s faith was incredibly important to him. That is why he founded TPUSA Faith, to promote the biblical values that would uplift hearts and raise heads in the dignity of their Creator.

I was blessed to know him, and to be welcomed to participate in the organization he built, which had an impact on this nation like no other.

As a friend just texted me, “May Charlie’s martyr death inspire all of us to greater courage and boldness.”
