On the morning of October 22nd, 2023, a man approached the front of a prominent mosque and Islamic centre in Ottawa.

Then, in full view of the surveillance camera, he proceeded to commit a disgusting act of vandalism using a plastic bag and feces.

This utterly appalling incident is another reminder of the extreme spike in Islamophobic acts reported across Canada in the past two weeks.

NCCM has received an over 1300% spike in such reports. This is utterly unacceptable. Our leaders must come together to formulate a real plan to stem this tide.

We are in touch with leaders at the mosque, Ottawa Police Services, and all parties on the ground to ensure this incident is appropriately investigated from all angles.

We will provide updates.
