Did a couple hours of distracted driving enforcement this morning. 4 drivers caught and ticketed. $368 fine, 4 points ($214), and if it their second strike in 3 years it means another bill ($453) and potentially their insurance going up for high risk driving. Just isn't worth it.
UPDATE | VicPD collision analysts will be at RJH for several hours. Access to the BC Cancer Clinic on RJH grounds will be gained off Trent St. Thank you for your patience. #yyj
@SaanichPolice@icbc@vicpdcanada@WestshoreRCMP@BCHwyPatrol Nothing brings in the Christmas season better than time spent with family, like our sisters and brothers at Saanich police. Great working with you tonight catching impaired drivers!
@yetichronicles @vicpdcanada If you would like a better means of communicating, I would be happy to arrange an in person meeting. Twitter isn't always the best means of communicating the nuances of law.
@yetichronicles @vicpdcanada MVA:
Stopping at intersections
186 Except when a peace officer directs otherwise, if there is a stop sign at an intersection, a driver of a vehicle must stop
(a)at the marked stop line, if any,
(b)before entering the marked crosswalk on the near side of the intersection,
@yetichronicles @vicpdcanada The Motor Vehicle Act superceeds all local bylaws when it comes to traffic law on a roadway. The MVA laws around cycling and stop lines are in effect for both lines. This link is to a video the city released on how to use them. https://t.co/vjkfaFAaIz
@village_whisper@vicpdcanada All were charged under the Motor Vehicle Act. Criminal charges are reserved for repeat offenders. By using administrative sanctions police stay on the road and catch more impaired drivers. 1 hour of paperwork vs hours of paper for a criminal charge.
@AquaticZERO@vicpdcanada All 24 of those were alcohol. It is difficult to screen for drug impaired drivers as it requires specialized training and only a few of us have that training. I do catch my fair share though.
@JAnctil Noise complaints are one of the number top complaints to police, as such we are enforcing sound laws when possible. I am a firm believer in community policing and going where my community asks me to go. That is also why we strictly enforce impaired driving laws.
What an unbelievable night. Multiple impaired drivers, noisy vehicles, no issuance, too many passengers... We ran out of tow trucks! Allways Towing did an amazing job tonight. Thank you! To everyone, please plan a safe ride home and keep an eye out for impaired drivers, call 911.
Victoria police traffic is investigating a cyclist struck Cook at Balmoral. Witnesses say the cyclist was passing cars on the right as one car turned right. Remember that when sharing a lane, passing a vehicle on the right is illegal, and dangerous. Minor injuries to cyclist.
Traffic is on scene in the 700 block of Craigflower and for a 3 vehicle rear end collision. Driver of the rear most vehicle was a taxi driver who blew a Warn (60 to100 mg% of alcohol) on a roadside screening device. No serious injuries.
