How to *actually* pause and resume an nmap scan :

* Pause : kill -SIGTSTP [PID]
* Do what you want (but don't halt/reboot)
* Resume : kill -SIGCONT [PID]

It works with some other processes. If not try to use -SIGSTOP instead of -SIGTSTP.
