Orlando Pirates have confirmed star man Relebohile Mofokeng will be joining Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise FC, subject to a successful medical.
The club have confirmed that the agreement between Orlando Pirates and USG was already reached BEFORE the WC!
From Benni McCarthy to Relebohile Mofokeng
The Royale Union Saint-Gilloise official who has maintained strong ties with South African football ever since his formative coaching years in Mzansi starting in 2007.
๐ฎ๐ชChris OโLoughlin began his career as an Orlando Pirates assistant coach under chairman ๐ฟ๐ฆIrvin Khoza, before joining SuperSport United as an academy coach.
By 2015, while managing Belgian side Sint-Truidense (STVV), OโLoughlin utilized this network to help sign a young ๐ฟ๐ฆKurt Abrahams and midfielder ๐ฟ๐ฆMay Mahlangu.
The Irishman also appointed ๐ฟ๐ฆBenni McCarthy as his assistant coach in 2015 after the pair met on a UEFA course, giving the South African legend his first European coaching role.
Now, OโLoughlin is tapping back into his coaching roots.
As Sporting Director of Union SG, the 47-year-old is orchestrating the four-year signing of Pirates starlet ๐ฟ๐ฆMofokeng, fresh off the player's treble-winning domestic season and 2026 World Cup campaign with Bafana Bafana.
His understanding of South African football and player mentality should prove valuable in helping Mofokeng settle and thrive in Europe.
