I'll admit: I didn't know much about Governor Tim Walz prior to a few weeks ago.
I hadn't even heard him speak before then, but that was literally all I needed. There was something in how he spoke, a very plain, direct way of making his points.
He used easy, accessible language that I appreciated as I heard him eviscerate JD Vance and the weird MAGA Republicans who want to ban abortion, ban books, and even ban free school lunches.
And THEN I remembered: Tim Walz is THE guy from Minnesota who signed a law as Gov. guaranteeing free breakfast and lunch for ALL school kids.
But the other stuff about Tim Walz is equally impressive:
He's a former teacher.
He served in the National Guard for 24 years, rising to the rank of Command Sergeant Major.
He was in Congress for 12 years and voted in favor of the Affordable Care Act, raising the minimum wage, and he spoke out against assault weapons after the Parkland school shooting.
He won the 2018 Governor's race by 11 points, was reelected by Minnesotans, and appointed the first Black chief justice to the Minnesota Supreme Court.
This guy, who plays frisbee with his dog at the end of the day, and spent his summers farming and hunting as a kid, this guy will continue to say it plain and will help Kamala Harris defeat trump and Vance.
The right wing will try to paint him as a radical left winger, but nobody who knows him thinks that. He really just comes across as a down to earth guy looking to help Harris save America from sliding into a fascist trumpian dictator dystopia.
And they will do it, ballz to the Walz.
Young people see this scene and think “That would never happen.” Look, I was there. This is every other Little League coach in America in 1976. Believe it.
"All you ever hear is Bench, Munson & Fisk. Nobody ever talks about Ted Simmons. He’s the most underrated catcher. He’s never got the recognition he deserves. But where can you find a catcher that can do all the things Simmons can do? He hits better than any of them & calls a great game. And who else in the league can catch as many games as he does?”

When I was a kid “load management” meant managing to load your fucked up vertebrae into a brace and getting your ass on the court. This man may be entitled to damages and he’s still out there giving you quality minutes. Let’s grow a spine again, America.
Last night's Nuggets vs. Timberwolves game tipped off at 10:42 ET.
Like many of you, Mad Dog wasn't a fan and for once, his First Take counterparts were in strong agreement including Kendrick Perkins who said he missed Get Up! because the game was so late.
