Η ιστορία της Καλλιθέας είναι ιστορία αντίστασης.

Κατά τη διάρκεια της στρατιωτικής δικτατορίας στην Ελλάδα, ήταν η ομάδα της Καλλιθέας του 1968/69 που αποτέλεσε εμπόδιο στη σχεδιαζόμενη πολιτική μεταρρύθμιση του ποδοσφαιρικού χάρτη που προωθούσε ο Κώστας Ασλανίδης, τότε Γενικός Γραμματέας Αθλητισμού.

Το σχέδιο του Ασλανίδη προέβλεπε την εξάλειψη των συλλόγων που αντιστέκονταν στο καθεστώς, μεταξύ των οποίων και η Καλλιθέα, ενώ ευνοημένη ομάδα για την άνοδο ήτ��ν το Κορωπί. Όταν η Καλλιθέα νίκησε τελικά το Κορωπί στα μπαράζ ανόδου, με 1-0 στην παράταση, στις 21 Ιουνίου 1969, ακολούθησαν μαζικοί πανηγυρισμοί στους δρόμους, κάτι που απαγορευόταν τότε από το καθεστώς, με το ραδιόφωνο του BBC να κάνει λόγο για «την πρώτη ήττα της χούντας».

Η νίκη τους είναι μια απόδειξη για όσα μπορεί να υπερνικήσει η δύναμη των ανθρώπων που είναι ενωμένοι για έναν σκοπό.

Kallithea’s history is resistance.

During the rule of the junta, it was the 1968/69 Kallithea team that disrupted the planned political reform of the football map being promoted by Kostas Aslanidis, then the Secretary General of Sport.

Aslandis’ plan called for the elimination of clubs resistant to the regime, which included Kallithea, while the favored side for promotion was Koropi. When Kallithea ultimately defeated Koropi in a promotion playoff, 1-0 in extra time, on 21 June 1969, there were mass celebrations in the streets, which was forbidden at the time by the regime, with BBC radio calling it “the first defeat of the junta.”

Their victory is a testament to what can be overcome by the spirit of people united in a cause.
