They difference is the load size in the .556 is more. Which if repeatedly fired out of an ar15 would warp the barrel because of high heat. No currently made ar15s have a “ select-fire”switch.

An ar15 cannot handle a .556 repeatedly it’ll warp the barrel. Other than being semi automatic that’s one of the major differences than an m16.

They may be similar,but are distinct in their design and purpose.

A semiautomatic rifle is not an”assault weapon”. And the caliber (.223) is not what the military uses, it’s to small.
