Almost every journalist I spoke to in the past month said that it was advantage TMC in West Bengal. Some even predicted a TMC sweep.
Every academic I spoke to - those who have worked on West Bengal - said TMC was in deep trouble, BJP was very likely to win a sizeable majority.
What exactly is opposition mukt Bharat?
I mean Congress and others aren’t going to shut shop or close their operations but if
- none of the issues you raise resonate with the people,
- you aren’t able to expose wrongdoings of the government,
- the leader of opposition is clinging on to his chair with no clear vision
- Half the opposition already switched sides because of government pressures
Then the opposition is already dead or mukt!
Losing elections is just a side effect
Final thought after long counting day :
From 2 MPs and zero states in 1984, BJP has now won 3 consecutive LS elections and is in power or alliance in 21 states.
From zero seats in 2011 to 206 in 2026 in West Bengal ..
From 3 seats in 2011 to 101 in Assam in 2026..
From one seat in the long history of Keralam politics to now 3 in 2026,
From being irrelevant in Puducherry to now being in ruling alliance..
As the BJP’s relentless election machine rolls on, are we heading for an ‘opposition mukt Bharat’ in the age of Moditva or will there be a pushback? And who will drive it when there is no level playing field? Unless you are a Vijay in TN!! Good night, shubhratri!🙏
First Himanta Biswa Sarma, and now Suvendu Adhikari.
Both tight lieutenants of the principal opposition party, jumped ship to BJP, and became CM
Though Raghav Chaddha has no electoral base but the prospects itself must be exciting enough for him. Only if he can deliver!
@vyasa1968 Congratulations!
After Delhi, TN was another prediction most didn’t believe but you sticked your neck out months in advance!
Axis did well but small pollsters like you have been way more consistent than some big names.
Tamilnadu assembly elections 2026.
1. Thanks JVC. In a way both of us got some right. I was way too short on Admk and your rural Admk doing well held in end.
2. Thondamuthur. SPV in nice lead.
Hopefully for UP2027, we both will be on right side.
Thanks.
2026 was supposed to be the beginning of the end of the BJP!
It turned out to be the beginning of the end of the opposition.
BJP is on a historic run beating its own records post 2014
What a turnaround!
BJP’s 'Mission 400' was stopped in the 2024 elections by Mamata Banerjee, Shiv Sena UBT, NC(sp), and Stalin (all lost). Next on the target is Akhilesh Yadav. Together, they won a total of 105 Lok Sabha seats. If you add Tejashwi(lost) and Kejriwal(lost), the total comes to 112 seats. all lost their own seats, and their parties were brutally defeated. Systematically, every opposition leader who stopped Modi in 2024 is being taken down through strategic manipulation. This is a clear pattern. They are preparing for 2029.
Bengal has 25%+ Minority population, votes en masse against BJP
Delhi has 5% Minority population and that vote splits between Congress and AAP
Yet Delhi was a closer contest!
AK fought a better battle in a much tougher land!
It is perplexing that anti incumbency in a non BJP state often leads to BJP eventually winning that state
But anti incumbency in a BJP state rarely leads to their defeat. Infact they came back stronger in Haryana, MP, and Maharashtra.
Sheer organization strength or money power or just lack of opposition?
Tamil Nadu, has one of the highest per capita GDP and still changes governments every 5-10 years
Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh has one of the lowest per capita GDP but elects the same government for 20+ years
Ironical!
