Opposition boycotting elections = BJP wins all seats. Once that happens, they amend the Constitution to legalize all their crimes.

Also not contesting elections means betraying the lakhs of workers who are on the ground, fighting with their lives.

That is why it is important to fight elections to protect democratic rights, while also fighting for free and fair elections

A suicide note by Malaysian contractor Lee See Been

Before Gyanesh Kumar became the Chief Election Commissioner of India, there was a disturbing chapter in his Kerala posting .

Gyanesh Kumar was a 1988-batch Kerala-cadre IAS officer served as Project Director of the Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP).

The KSTP involved Malaysian contractor PATI-BEL.
Lee See Been was chief project officer of PATI-BEL, working on the World Bank-aided KSTP.

In 2006, Lee See Been, the Malaysian project manager of the World Bank-aided Kerala State Transport Project, died by suicide.

In his suicide note, Lee See Been clearly named Gyanesh Kumar, who was PWD Secretary then and alleged that bribes were being demanded and that funds due to the project were being withheld and delayed.

This was not just a random allegation floating around years later.
It was an allegation recorded in the suicide note of the man at the centre of the project dispute.

Gyanesh Kumar was transferred.

Today, that same Gyanesh Kumar sits at the helm of the Election Commission of India and was entrusted with safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.

How did an officer whose name appeared in a suicide note alleging bribery and withholding of funds eventually rise to become the custodian of India's elections?

Police Brutality Against Peaceful SFI-DYFI Protest to the Election Commission of India; Arrest of MPs and Student-Youth Leaders Condemned

The brutal police crackdown on the peaceful SFI-DYFI protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is a shameful assault on democratic rights and the people's right to demand free and transparent elections in the country.

The police unleashed brutal force against peaceful protesters and arrested Comrade A. A. Rahim, Rajya Sabha MP and All India President of DYFI; Comrade Sivadasan, Rajya Sabha MP; Comrade Adarsh M. Saji, SFI All India President; and SFI Delhi leadership comrades Sooraj Elamon (Secretary), Mehina Fathima (Joint Secretary), Simran (Vice President), Anil Sethumadhavan (Vice President), Sagar Singal (Vice President), Sakhi (Secretariat member), and several other activists.

This is not merely an attack on SFI and DYFI; it is an attack on the democratic foundations of the Republic. When citizens demand an impartial Election Commission and transparent elections, the government's response cannot be lathis, physical violence and arrests. The Election Commission must remain accountable to the Constitution and the people, not function as an instrument of the ruling dispensation.

The grave mismanagement under Gyanesh Kumar's tenure, with the political backing of the Sangh Parivar-led government, demands a thorough and impartial investigation. Those responsible must be held accountable, and the credibility of the country's electoral process must be restored.

We make it unequivocally clear: we shall not move an inch backwards until Gyanesh Kumar steps down and faces trial for his grave mismanagement. No amount of police repression, intimidation or illegal detention will silence the collective voice of students and youth!

The special NIA court at Rouse Avenue has granted permission to US National Matthew Aaron Vandyke and 6 Ukrainian nationals to travel to the USA and Ukraine to meet their families for one month, subject to certain conditions and formalities. The court directed the release of their passports to them. All 7 foreigners have been granted default bail by the court.

Demand Number 1

-Gyanesh Kumar must resign within 48 hours. Initiate criminal proceedings against him. Answer who gave him the orders to steal votes.

Demand Number 2

-Put on hold all upcoming elections. Freeze SIR immediately. Roll back the voters list to January 2025. Constitute an independent inquiry commission that commands public confidence to probe all SIR related actions. Supreme Court which has much to answer for legalising Gyanesh Kumar’s illegalities must immediately order seizing of SIR related files and records and submission to Court.

Demand Number 3

Repeal the 2023 law on ECI appointments immediately. Draft a new law with active participation of civil society, an independent selection process that inspires public confidence.

If the resignation does not come through in 48 hours, we will launch a nationwide agitation and will end it only when all demands are fulfilled.
