The coconut milk is the gentle choice. Dairy-free, kind, a little tropical halo poured into the curry and the morning smoothie. No cow was troubled in the making of it.
A monkey was.
Across southern Thailand, the main source of the world's coconut milk, the harvest runs on pig-tailed macaques. They are an endangered species. Many are taken from the wild as babies, which is illegal, and sold into what the industry cheerfully calls monkey schools, where they are chained, tethered, and broken until they will obey. Their canine teeth are sometimes pulled out so they cannot bite the handler. Then they spend their working lives on a chain, sent up trees thirty metres tall to twist down the fruit.
A monkey can be made to pick a thousand coconuts in a day. A human manages about eighty. So the maths does the rest, and the animal that shares most of your instincts spends a decade choking against a metal collar, tied to an old tyre between shifts, so a carton can say plant-based on the front.
Investigators have documented it four times over. The Thai industry keeps promising it has stopped. It has not, so most British supermarkets quietly pulled their own-brand Thai coconut milk rather than keep swearing it was clean.
No cow was troubled. Just a primate on a chain, doing your picking.

Challenge: pick a corner of your lawn and stop mowing it for the rest of the summer. See what pops up and makes it home.
Clover, violets, self-heal, and wild strawberry might already be in your grass waiting for exactly this. Within a couple weeks, flowers will pop up. Within a month you'll have more insects and small animals visiting.
In the fall, it'll be there to provide important overwintering habitat.
The lawn is already full of habitat. Let it grow.
Shameless Russian vatniks exploit disabled kids to get gasoline.
This whorc is bragging that she "rented" a disabled kid to buy gasoline ahead of queue.
Orcistan it is.
Fish oil is the world's favourite supplement, sold as pure, fresh, bottled heart-health. Here is the label against the lab test.
As sold:
- Pure and fresh
- Heart-protective
- Concentrated omega-3
- What the label claims, in every capsule
What testing keeps finding:
- In one study, 83% of fish oil products exceeded recommended oxidation levels. They were rancid.
- Only 8% met all the oxidation limits
- Only 3 of 32 products actually contained the omega-3 their label claimed; most held under two thirds of it
- Norway: over 90% exceeded oxidation limits. Children's products were among the worst.
- The big prevention trials found no drop in heart attacks or strokes in the general population
So a large share of the capsules are oxidised oil, under-dosed against their own label, and doing nothing for the heart they were bought to protect.
You paid a premium for rancid oil in a fish-shaped shell.
Skip the capsule. Eat the actual fish, or the eggs, and keep your money.
The photograph was taken by photojournalist David Turnley during the Siege of Sarajevo.
It shows Bosnian sniper Nadia Jeriagic aiming a rifle at Serbian snipers in the mountains from her position on the 20th floor of a Sarajevo building.
Jeriagic, who worked a regular shift sniping at Serbs, had been an artist before the war.
The eighteenth to twentieth floors offered long sightlines across intersections that had become k*ll zones, which snipers on both sides fought to control as civilians sprinted across them clutching bags of food or buckets of water.
In 2015, ISIS captured Palmyra and demanded its head of antiquities reveal where the treasures were hidden.
He was 81 years old. He refused.
Khaled al-Asaad had spent over 50 years excavating and protecting Palmyra, the caravan city that once rivalled Rome in the Syrian desert.
He learned Aramaic to read its inscriptions. He raised his children among its ruins and named his daughter Zenobia, after its rebel queen.
Before the city fell, he helped evacuate hundreds of artefacts to safety. ISIS interrogated him for weeks to find them. But he gave them nothing.
They executed him in the square and left his body among the columns he had spent his life defending.
Archaeology is not a soft profession. Sometimes the people who guard the past die for it.
Disgusting Russian tactic: Loading school buses with soldiers and driving them to the front. Then crying 'terrorism' when drones hit them. They kill kids daily but weaponize any strike for propaganda.
Absolute scum.

🇷🇺 russischen Flughäfen geht das Kerosin aus – eine OSINT-Karte zeigt jetzt landesweit, wo Jets gar nicht mehr und wo nur noch limitiert betankt werden.
Per NOTAM-Meldung an Piloten gelten Betankungslimits u.a. in Machatschkala, Mineralnyje Wody, Krasnodar, Astrachan und Nischni Nowgorod.

Browder: Putin stole too much money. He knows one day a million people march on Red Square — and it won't be an elegant exit, it'll be violent and bloody for him personally.
He can kill Navalny, kill Nemtsov, imprison individuals. But not a million people.
KELLOGG: Putin just wants power. He's lost 1.2 to 1.4 million soldiers. Numbers are astronomical. We as Americans would never accept that. He's doing this for power and to occupy all of Ukraine. But he can't, and he's not winning. I think he's worried about his own survival now.

Trump calling 2024 a ‘LANDSLIDE’? 😂
Delusional.
He won the popular vote by ~2 points — one of the smallest margins for a winner in modern history.
Barely squeaked key swing states.
No blowout, no mandate.
Lost popular vote twice before. ‘Historic win’ against a weak opponent after Biden’s disaster?
Media credibility?
Trump’s is tanking with the exaggeration.
Facts over ego. 🇺🇸
🧐🤔Putin was presented with a painting in China.
First of all, Xi Jinping is depicted as almost twice the size of Putin.
Secondly, Xi is walking ahead, while Putin follows behind him.
Thirdly, Xi is looking forward, while Putin is looking at him.
Fourth, Xi appears calm and confident, while Putin looks like he’s trying to catch up — more of a companion than an equal.
And overall, it makes it pretty clear who the “big brother” is and who the “little brother” is.
A very strong piece of trolling.
