JUST IN: DC drought designation lifted after recent soaking rains

The latest U.S. Drought Monitor shows encouraging progress: DC and much of the Interstate 95 corridor are no longer classified as being in drought.

But it's still abnormally dry and large parts of the surrounding area remain in moderate and severe drought.
