It's impossible to be able to learn, improve, and be creative when you're constantly worried about making money to live. The system is killing our braincells.

The brighter STEM people understand that studying science does not automatically turn out intellectuals. Intellectualism requires a broader understanding of the world. However, there's a large midwit layer of STEM narcissists who lack the humility that could drive them to investigate what they don't understand. The most interesting concept in 1984 is newspeak.Newspeak is the official language created by the totalitarian state of Oceania.
Its purpose is to change how people speak, which in turn changes their ability to think. The easiest way to understand it is to imagine removing the word "freedom". If there is no word for freedom, it's much harder for people to express or even think about anti government ideas.
I think this is one of Orwell’s most valuable warning: that controlling language can ultimately become a way of controlling thought, and it feels like a particularly valuable warning for the future.

Got hacked yesterday. The link came from inside Claude chat.

I was installing a transcription app. Claude sent the download link, and I pasted the command into the terminal. It all looked legit.

It wasn't though.

It was a copycat site bundling malware. It ran instantly, tried to take everything from me.

Nothing sensitive got out. So I wiped the laptop and rebuilt clean.

But here's the scary part.

Restoring from the backup, I found a poisoned SKILL.md for Claude Code.

It looked exactly like my own writing style guide.

But buried inside:

it had instructions to silently re-download the malware and steal my credentials every time the AI loaded it.

If I'd restored that one file, my new clean laptop is owned on day one.

What saved me:

I read every skill, hook, and config file before letting the AI touch them.

Two lessons here:

AI assistants will hand you links they never verified. Check before you paste.

And AI agent files are executable code now, disguised as notes. You have to read them.

Stay safe out there.

This is why it drives me mad when people say, “Don’t you wish you’d had AI to write your college essays?” No, because writing those essays was a pleasure, because I enjoy looking things up in books and I like learning. I take pride in my work because I’m not a loser.

Instead of relying on Claude and ChatGPT for information, you should be relying on folk wisdom, myths, oral traditions, traveling bards, ballads, proverbs, legends, riddles and cryptic symbolism that manifests in your dreams.

I don't forget that much, but I definitely forget characters' names and some details, not the plot itself. I stopped feeling embarrassed about it since forgetting doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy it at the time
