literally this
besides feeding the fans, showing new sides and letting them explore different sounds/styles, a mixtape also lets the artist test the waters before an official release, see how fans are feeling, which tracks hit more and which ones don’t
win-win for us and them
Semasa trainee ohyul pernah kepikiran buat mendalami akting aja (karena mungkin udh capek kalik yaaa), bahkan morvi pun bersedia untuk memfasilitasi.. tp woojin ngelarang keras karena dia maunya mereka debut bareng..
damn lahh gw nangis... Bonding mereka tuh loh bener bener kuat bgtt huhu woojin ga mau kehilangan kakaknyaaa 🥺🥺
The thing I loveeeeee about this choreo is that it never looks like it’s painfully, painstakingly trying to convince or cajole the public into liking them.
And I think part of that is because it doesn’t have that feeling of a choreographer’s signature moves being stamped onto the idols. You know when a top choreographer gives a group their choreography, and you can immediately see the choreographer in it? The same movement language, the same gestures, the same kind of “point dance” you’ve seen before - just with different idols executing it. It can feel like the choreography belongs to the choreographer more than it belongs to the artist(s).
Here, the choreography is clearly curated, but it doesn’t feel like it lost its identity - for identity sake. They dance in unison, yet there’s still this tinge of personality and character/their likeness - like they’re not just vessels executing someone else’s artistic signature.
It also doesn’t feel so point dance-y, like every eight-count was engineered to scream, “Remember this! Make this viral!”, "Look at me!"
And then there’s what happens on stage. The live performance doesn’t try to compete with or replicate the music video.
It feels more like an augmentation of it - a parallel medium that gives the audience a different experience of the same song.
The music video and the stage performance aren't trying to one-up each other or say the same thing twice.
They’re 'world-building', if you will, across different channels and platforms: one gives you the constructed visual universe; the other gives you the vigor, presence, and physicality of the artists.
Especially at the debut showcase - and Woojin’s dance break (https://t.co/5m0Qbvo1m2) in particular - you suddenly see another layer of the performance that the MV can’t give you. It’s not better than the MV; it’s a different experience of the same artistic world or expression of it.
The overall feeling is basically: “Yeah, we’re hella talented.” And they never have to scream it at you. They just do it. You get it. Ruda's Dance Lab explains it further - https://t.co/LYe6igaOl6
I think that’s what I mean when I say it looks like skill without the desperation to be perceived as skillful. They’re not trying to convince you that they’re talented. The choreography gives them enough room for their own artistry to come through, and the performance itself does the rest.
Again, rarely in a debut is it meticulously engineered for, by, with and from the artists. Expressing it altogether in different media - it's an art itself. But coming from boys below 21, you can see serious music research from their inspirations and they don't try to be their role models.
so an ROTY 2026 - it's not a hard sell or a difficult choice. it's august bruh, and no debut yet this year nor comeback expressed a zeitgeist as much as them #LngshotFighting
