There will never be another Nana.
For a child, watching “Thodasa Roomani Ho Jaayen”, it was the sight of Nana selling rain that first made me stop and wonder what an actor could actually do. He wasn't merely performing a character. He made you believe that the character existed.
As I grew up, Ankush, Pratighaat and Prahaar showed us an entirely different Nana. Angry, intense, wounded, uncompromising. He gave the "Angry Young Man" a rawness that was distinctly his own.
Salaam Bombay! and Parinda revealed the immense depth beneath that intensity. In Parinda, he inhabited darkness and moral ambiguity with such frightening conviction that the character stayed with you long after the credits rolled.
Then came Krantiveer, where rage acquired a conscience. Agni Sakshi, Khamoshi, Yeshwant, Ghulam-E-Mustafa, Hu Tu Tu, Kohram, Apaharan, Shakti, The Attacks of 26/11, Rajneeti and so many others kept reminding us that Nana could inhabit almost any shade of the human experience.
And then there was Uday Shetty.
With Welcome, Nana showed us that the same face that could frighten you, move you or make you uncomfortable could also make an entire generation laugh uncontrollably. Uday Bhai will live forever. "Control, Uday, control!" became part of our collective vocabulary.
And if there was ever an actor who could make an encounter specialist feel frighteningly real, it was Nana in Ab Tak Chhappan. Inspector Sadhu Agashe wasn't a caricature of a tough cop. He was complicated, restrained, ruthless and human.
From Natsamrat to Taxi No. 9211, from Tirangaa to Raajneeti, from theatre to Hindi and Marathi cinema, Nana kept refusing to be boxed into a type. Three National Awards and the Padma Shri recognised what audiences had known for decades.
Nearly five decades on screen, and somehow he never became just another star. He remained Nana. Perhaps that was his greatest achievement. He did not act for applause. He made you feel something.
As a child, I watched him sell rain. As a young man, I watched him rage, fight, intimidate, love, laugh and break. Today, I realise that what I was really watching all those years was one of Indian cinema's rarest gifts: an actor who could disappear completely into a character and yet remain unmistakably himself.
And now the screen has gone a little quieter.
"Kabhi sambhar ek, kabhi sambhar do..." And somewhere, Uday Shetty will still be shouting, scheming, threatening and making us laugh.
Thank you, Nana, for giving several generations characters we will never forget.
There will never be another Nana. Never.
🕉️ Shanti. 🙏

Bonds forged in Border-men’ uniform is stronger than distance, time & passing years. I worked in 71 Bn BSF for 4 years including 3 years in J&K. This Bn has at its credit to fight 1971 war. Its regimental culture is a model of camaraderie. After 29 years after my leaving the Unit, Ct. Vinod traced me & encouraged to visit Kerala. He ensured ten retired jawans of my period belonging to Kerala got together to meet. All had come from far distances. We visited the NOK of our fallen Comrade Ravindran SL at his house in Kollam.Happy to see these Malayali BSF Brethren so well connected to support each other. It’s they who further guided me to the family of MK Ashok Kumar my batchmate whose life was cut short in J&K in very early Years. Saji of 98 Bn was extremely warm to receive us. Welcome by batchmates Srikumar M & Baby Joseph made the trip extremely valuable in Kochi. BSF नौकरी के साथ भी नौकरी के बाद भी.. जीवन पर्यंत कर्तव्य 👍😊
Yeh ladka bahut talented hai.
Kya woh abhi bhi Nainital ki sadkon par kaam kar raha hai?
Main na sirf uski padhai mein madad karna chahta hoon, balki jaadu mein uski dilchaspi ko bhi badhava dena chahta hoon.
Kyon na woh duniya ke behtareen jaadugaron mein se ek bane?
Kya koi mujhe usse aur uske mata-pita se sampark karne mein madad kar sakta hai?

A saga of
Bravery | Sacrifice | Friendship | Love
In the last decade of twentieth century two childhood friends Prateek and Vijay decided to join #IndianArmy and serve the nation. Accordingly both started preparing for the same and later on Prateek was successful in joining OFFICERS TRAINING ACADEMY but Vijay couldn't make it.
Vijay and Prateek had a promise between themselves: if something were to happen to any of them, the other would ensure that the parents were taken care of.
On completion of training successfully Prateek was inducted into 7 DOGRA as an LIEUTENANT.
On October 8, 2005 when MAJOR PRATEEK MISHRA was posted at Uri in Kashmir, earthquake hit parts of India and Pakistan. Uri was also jolted with earthquake and many bunkers of the soldiers deployed at LOC were badly hit. Major Prateek's bunker was also damaged but he managed to escape safely. When he found few of his colleagues stuck in the bunker he went inside and rescued few of them.
He went again inside to save others and in the process immortalized himself.
Once MAJOR PRATEEK MISHRA left his parents for ever, his childhood friend VIJAY moved into his home and started living with Prateek's patents.
It has been 13 years now Vijay staying with the parents of Major Prateek Mishra. Vijay is married now but he still continues to stay at Major Prateek's home along with his wife and children.
October 8 being MAJOR PRATEEK's balidan diwas used to be a difficult day for the family but eight year after his martyrdom things changed.
"Believe it or not, Vijay’s son was born on 8 October!”
Today Vijay Bahiya is celebrating Major Prateek’s 46th Birthday.
